23rd of March, Pakistan day

Pakistan Association of New Zealand has decided to hold a Car Rally on the eve of Pakistan Day 23 March 2004. This rally will pass from different roads of Auckland including Central City and will mark the day when for the first time in history, Muslims of the Indian Sub-Continent demanded a separate homeland for themselves. The Rally details and road map will be finalized and communicated to all community members quite soon. Please keep yourself free from 1 to 4pm on 23 March (Tuesday). Make plans of how to make your car more beautiful by decorating it with Pakistan and New Zealand themes like flags, posters and such like stuff. There will be prizes for the beautiful and well-decorated cars of the event.

As we want to make this activity more interesting and eye-catching, suggestions from community members to make this Rally an unforgettable experience will be highly appreciated. The best suggestions will be awarded special prizes in form Pakistani Songs Cds. The last date of submitting such suggestions is March 12, 2004 on email given below

586 families reconverted to Hinduism in Ajmer
Press Trust of India
Ajmer, February 16
As many as 586 families residing in 76 villages in Beawar sub-division of Ajmer district were reconverted to Hinduism in a ceremony organised by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad.

VHP chief Ashok Singhal who was present at village Andheri Deori presented tulsi garlands to the villagers who reconverted into the Hindu fold in a ceremony on Sunday.

"The villagers were converted into Islam by force a few centuries back and most of them were observing religious ceremonies of both the faiths," a VHP spokesman said in Ajmer.

"Now the villagers have joined back their original faith," he added.

Each of the villagers was given a copy of the Ram Charitmanas by the VHP on this occasion.

‘American Jihad’

Note: Please forward this mail to individuals and organizations in New Zealand immediately.

Dear all,

We have got this email from one of our community members.
As you may be aware TV3 will broadcast a television programme that is offensive to Muslims and I would like to request the assistance of your goodselves and your networks.

Inspired by PANZ's action against "LOC", the "3MNZ" group has decided
to take action as a test case and the attached complaint has been
drafted and sent to TV3 in accordance with the complaints procedure under the Free-to-Air TV Code.

It would be much appreciated if your organisations could send a similar complaint. FYI, the direct fax number for Brett Impey is 09 366 5999.

Informal complaints can be made by telephone directly to TV3 at 0800
888 4733, or by fax to the above number. These should be in the following form in a calm, rational manner- the caller SHOULD NOT lose their cool and stick to the facts of this basic message:

'My name is [whatever]. I am emailing/calling to complain about the
trailer for the episode of Law and Order to be broadcast at 9:30PM on
Wednesday 18 February. I have seen the trailer once/several times and I find its portrayal of a Muslim character deeply offensive. It is
inaccurate and makes me feel threatened and insecure because people it may cause people to react negatively to me as a New Zealand Muslim simply because of the trailer.

I would like TV3 to cease and desist from broadcasting this trailer and cancel the broadcast of Law and Order episode ‘American Jihad창€™ scheduled for 9.30PM, Wednesday 18 February 2004.

If they refer the caller to the complaints procedure, the caller should politely say "thank you" and end the call. The informal complaint will still be fed back to TV3 management.

Below is the sample and detailed letter about the programme.

Cabinet Meeting Of PANZ

Cabinet Meeting of Pakistan Association of New Zealand was held under the chairmanship of Shahid Azad, acting President PANZ. The meeting reviewed the current circumstances and future plans in detail. The meeting decided the following in outcome

  • Cabinet Meeting reviewed its performance in the last year and expressed satisfaction of the progress and achievements it made during the course of time. It also discussed different aspects and outcome of recently held AGM and financial accounts 2003. The cabinet made it clear that each and every receipt of income & expenses is crystal clear and open to the public. The accounts have been audited by M V Reddy Taxation Services and can be viewed and explained to any body. The accounts details and break-ups are already hosted on web site and have been emailed to the community members as well. The accounts spent on various programmes were always discussed and approved by PANZ cabinet members present there and recorded minutes of all previous cabinet meetings are testimony to that. The meeting also decided to dispose internal liabilities in a scheduled way.

  • The yearly progress report has already been prepared and made accessible to the people both in electronic and print form. This report details the events and activities PANZ held in year 2003. The meeting viewed in details the changes happened in in general and executive committees for the past few months. The members appreciated the honesty, integrity and sincerity of PANZ president Mr. Tanveer Syed who is on leave for coming few months. The meeting also thanked the members of Executive Committee for their guidance, encouragement and impartiality at all the times.

  • PANZ also discussed the resignation of Khurram Zaidi General Secretary PANZ who had informed PANZ of his resignation more than a month before. The reasons cited by him at each and every time were his hectic family and job schedule. He could only attend a few PANZ meetings throughout the year for the same reasons. Cabinet accepted his resignation as the portfolio demands someone who has time to spare. Cabinet wished him best for his family and the job. Cabinet decided to deal with the issue of choosing new General Secretary according to the constitution and its relevant clause. PANZ acting President has already started consultations regarding it. Meanwhile for interim period PANZ Joint Secretary will assume the responsibilities of General Secretary that vary from dealing mails to maintaining web site.

  • The meeting decided to reopen membership campaign from March 1, 2004. The campaign will continue for next two months so that maximum number of community people might be involved in development activities. 10$ Membership fee both for individuals and the family will remain at place during the campaign. Community people have been requested to respond positively to the renewal of their membership instead of keeping themselves aloof from community activities.

  • To strengthen PANZ general accounts the meeting decided to start automatic payment donation campaign immediately so that solid foundation would be laid for maintenance of accounts and active involvement of community.

  • The meeting also decided in principal to celebrate Pakistan Day on 23rd March 2004. Certain options were discussed for celebration and final decision was deferred to next PANZ meeting. It was also decided to invite community members to give proposals on how best we can celebrate Pakistan Day. Suggestions can be forwarded to panz_inc@hotmail.com or Shahzad Sadiq at 8454896

  • Keeping with its spirit of listening and accommodating every body in democratic environment, PANZ decided to begin “face to face” dialogue with PANZ critics or any body at the place of his own choice who is really interested in questioning PANZ and its activities in a critically positive, and bashing-free manner. PANZ will send its expression of interest for such meetings to the individuals and groups for their feed back quite soon. This effort will dispel many rumors, bring unity, and remove misunderstanding among people, PANZ hoped.

>As scheduled Eid Picnic was held on 8 February 2003. It was wonderful
>day full of fun, laughter and enjoyment. Families started arriving at
>the venue from 2 pm and were welcomed for being part of the festive
>environment. After One Dish Lunch there was s series of 100 meters races
>designed separately for different age groups. Small children, boys,
>young guns, seniors and those who left behind ran separately for their
>supremacy in being "fastest men of the day". This 5 races event was
>cheered loudly by the crowd and the winners were patted on the shoulders
>by all and sundry. Afterwards a 12 overs cricket match was played
>between two elevens, one captained by Ch. Imtiaz and other by Imran
>Akram. Imtiaz Eleven won this interesting match comfortably amid lot of
>hue and cry with shining performances from Asif Saeed and Hafiz Junaid.
>Imran Eleven couldn't match the skill and strength of the opponent
>despite their patchy chances. At the same time children had separate
>cricket session while ladies remained busy in a separate sports and
>talking session. Then came BBQ -yummy---- people gathered around and did
>full justice with BBQ perpetrators by keeping them busy all the times.
>The last session was pick of the day---Tug Of War---- 5 teams fought
>separately to test their muscles in Rasa Kashi and every body enjoyed
>the event in true Pakistani spirit. Darkness was setting in one when
>prizes were distributed among the winners and organizers thanked the

>unlucky is the one who missed.

>Pakistan Association of New Zealand is appreciative of the participants
