An international Mushaira was organised on 12th June at FICKLING CONVENTION CENTRE tHREE kINGS, Mount Albert AUCKLAND to mark the 100th anniversary of great Urdu poet FAIZ AHMAD FAIZ. The event attracted around 200 Urdu loving community of Indian and Pakistani origin from Auckland, Hamilton and elsewhere from New Zealand. Local and overseas urdu poets recited their poetries and from the book of Faiz Ahmad Faiz. Dr Ashraf Choudhry, Labour Member of Parliament recited beautiful poetry from the book of Faiz Ahmad Faiz and spoke about the life of the great shair. The local poets Janab Syed Hassan, Janaba Sayema Siddiqui sahiba, janab Taqi sahib ,Janab Om Shirivastave Janab Nisar Mirza Sahib , Janab Syed Mujib Hyderabadi and janab Nasir of Radio Apna recited beautiful urdu poetries and entertained the enthusiastic crowd through out the night. Professor Dr Raees Alvi , tthe Registrar of KaRACHI uNIVERSITY Pakistan who is a great personality in Urdu Literature presided over the function.
Roopa sachdev, a popular Radio and TV personality was the master of ceremony of the colourful evening.The special guests included Honourable Kanwaljit singh Bakhshi, National Member of Parliament, Janab Mushtaq Sheikh President of New Zealand Muslim League. This great entertaining evening was very successfully organised by Syed Mujib Hyderabadi who said that he was very much encouraged by the response and the interest of the Urdu loving community of New Zealand and that he is planning to organise this Mushaira on a grand international level next year. Professor Dr Raees Alvi of Pakistan said that he is very much impressed that there are so many Urdu loving people living so far from India and Pakistan. He congratulated the organisors of the evening and promised his full support in future.
