Fare well Niazi

The High Commissioner, Khizar Hayat Khan Ziazi, warmly thanked the organizers, Pakistan Association (Melbourne) and Cricket Australia for hosting the wonderful farewell. He thanked the Cricket Australia and confided to guests that he took particular delight in the fact that it was only during his term of office that a Pakistan team had finally managed to defeat the magnificent Australian XI. On a more serious note, the long time career diplomat expressed his particular satisfaction with the very significant improvement in the bilateral relationship that had taken place during his time here. While modest about his own role, he paid tribute to the open, honest and straightforward ways of the Australians with whom he engaged at all official levels. This enabled frank discussions, respect of viewpoints and ultimately created the right environment for strong cooperation and steady progress. He said he has thoroughly enjoyed his time in Australia in the service of his country and appreciated the opportunities it had provided. It was a great source of pride, he noted that wherever he was posted, there were always fellow countrymen willing to extend the hand of friendship and hospitality and he particularly thanked the Melbourne community for making him feel so much at home among friends.
