US embassy in Pakistan in a statement said, "We agree with the UN that the international community needs to greatly step up its level of support to Pakistan in order to provide humanitarian relief during what will be a protracted relief operation lasting months. We would urge all donors to do the same.
However, The U.S. has no plans to diminish its support of its ally Pakistan in its hour of need and hopes the international community can step up with great increased commitments to support the relief efforts."

The day after the earthquake, four US-provided helicopters already in Pakistan mobilized to the affected areas. The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has expressed serious concern over delay in implementation of its funded projects, and demanded of the government an effective monitoring system for improvement in this area. The delegation was due in Islamabad in the current month but delayed the visit due to the earthquake.
Sources said that ADB teams have been raising the issue at different levels and demanding that the pace of work at delayed projects should be expedited.
According to sources, around 24 ADB funded projects fall in the category of dissatisfactory implementation, and the bank wants improvement to ensure their timely implementation. They claim that in some cases delay is of even more than three years and even extension in deadline could not make the government move to the expectations of ADB.
They quote projects like the programme of judicial reforms and police reforms, revamping of water courses in Punjab, project initiated for promotion of small and medium enterprises (SMEs), federally administered tribal area (Fata) uplift programme and various other uplift projects undertaken by the provinces to increase the income of women and low income group, in particular, the in rural area in support of their arguments.
Similarly, some of the ADB funded projects could not take off due to one reason or the other.
According to ADB delay in implementation of some of the key projects related to institutional reforms and welfare of the people is a serious concern to the bank and its team is coming to Pakistan to take up the matter with the authorities.
Sources said a two-member ADB review mission, which visited Islamabad early this month raised the issue with the advisor to the Prime Minister on Finance and Revenue Dr Salman Shah and demanded that the government should take the matter seriously to avoid inordinate in implementation of its funded projects.
According to sources Salman assured the delegation that he would personally look into the matter and make it sure that ADB funded projects did not suffer for any reason. Dr Salman also assured the delegation to take up the matter with the provinces to push them to improve their implementation and monitoring system of the foreign funded projects.

Musharraf calls for demilitarization for settling vexed Kashmir issue
(Updated at 2145 PST)
DUBAI: Observing that the massive temblor that hit both sides of the LoC has offered an "opportunity" for moving forward on resolving the Kashmir issue, Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf has said he favoured the idea of demilitarisation for ultimately settling the vexed problem.
"I am for demilitarisation. If they agree to that, we will too. We are very flexible. We are absolutely open to moving forward to the ultimate solution. You can't clap with one hand; you can only clap with two," he told Arab News when asked did he think it was high time for people of both sides to do something for peace in the wake of the natural calamity.
"There must be political movement. There must be discussions between India and Pakistan, involving Kashmiris that will lead to results. I am for these results. This is an opportunity. You are very right that we are spending too much money on the military, he said.
When asked about charges in some sections of the Indian media that Pakistan haggled on the issue of opening the LoC, he said "It is unfortunate that anybody has said that Pakistan has haggled on the issue of opening of points on the LoC. Pakistan has been haggling on only one issue: Indian military personnel coming across the LoC. On no other issue has Pakistan haggled."
Asking Syria and Iran to adopt a reconciliatory approach rather than a confrontational one in dealing with the United States said, "Anything that serves to increase confrontation should be avoided. We must concentrate on things which assist reconciliation instead of things which lead to confrontation."
Asked what Pakistan's role would be if the US opened a new front against Syria and Iran, Musharraf said there were already too many fronts and they all needed to be closed.
Musharraf expressed his gratitude for the Kingdom's generous aid to the quake-affected people in Pakistan. "Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah and the royal family have shown great generosity and set an example for others to follow," Musharraf said. He also lauded the Saudi people for donating financial and material aid in support of the victims.
The president said it was unfortunate that in some quarters, especially in the Arab world, there was a misunderstanding about the recent contacts between Pakistan and Israel.
"Pakistan's stance concerning the Palestinian cause remains unchanged; there has been no change whatsoever," the president said.

Urgent Request to SohniDharti Administrator about New ID's
Also I would like to say that average normal people of community who have donated with their hearts to the victims and collected aprox. $70,000 are not after the receipts issued and get tax reductions for these donations. Donating to these individual welfare organizations in Pakistan give opportunity for businessmen to get receipts issued to them with changed amount. And most of the Pakistanis know about this. We have to show some honesty to do betterment of our community and our homeland which is affected by natural disasters. This is a reminder sent to us by God, for us to help and support those who are affected, not go on with thoughts of our business benefits.

basicaly this job was done by 20 people not more than that. They were the
people who got constructive thinking and are very honest with their nation.
As General secretary of PANZ I am in contact with PANZ presedent and vice
president from PAkistan I arrived here from New Zealand on the 22nd of Oct.
The first city I visited was Karachi I found the life here is normal and
going ok, I also found there is a trust called Edhi Trust But when I gone
out and asked the common people the majority of the people are working in a
small groups collecting money or other goods and delivering it to affected
areas by theirself. I spend 3 days in Karachi and found that their are tents
available and ordered some.
Next was I landed on Peshawar International airport the firt news did upset
me when I heared that My cousin is missing in the earthquake he was in Army
so far he is considered dead, he was at the border, His whole Unit is
uncontactable even G.H.Q got no info about his whole Unit and they said
sorry we can not help and we got no contact so far.
From Peshawar air port I traveled to this side of Sindh River while the
other side is Huripore and Hazara. In this side of Tubela Dam i found all
house walls cracked, and the people very anxious and scared as at 10pm after
aftari I was sitting at Uncles home and another earthquake 5.4 on rector
scale and its happening every day or second day.
Today i am waiting for tents from Karachi and going to buy some Blankets,
Already booked a doctor and a nurse to take them with me to Earthquake
affected area.
The things I am personaly taking there are
New Blankets
New tents
Water
Medicines
Some first aid service and i am also taking some volunteers from here to
help me in this process In my first visit I will go to Aogi(Mansehra),
Batagram, and villages nearby, and depends on the situation there I will go
further to Muzaffar Abad and Balakot.
Though Pakistan Govt is doing their best but its out of their hands now.
Even United nations are loosing this battle.
My view so far from my personal experiance here is the faster you help the
most effective it will be the later you help will basicaly just formality.
To the New Zealand Pak community and Pakistan associtaion my request is
If you want to help the earth quake victoms from the bottem of your heartes
....
Please send atleast 2 trustees with the funds every thing is available in
Pakistan I am here to
co-ordinate with them.
I got accomodation for them
I can arrange transport to affected areas which is just 5 hours drive from
my residence here.
I can arrange labour workers from here.
I can arrange the required goods, medicines and some volunteers doctors.
President of Pakistan is honest man we all respect him and Edhi is also
wellknown in social works but If you want the satisfaction of the community
I will arrange a video of the PANZ relief operation the affected area and
send it to NZ.
If the funds goes to President fund the process take more than long to reach
affected areas or it may be used in construction later on as I found from my
experiance here.
If you send it to Edhi It will basicaly goes to his account and He can use
it when and whereever I trust him that will not use it fro personal purpose
but for huminity but The situation here is to act fast and do some practical
work.
My request to PANZ Prsident is Please send atleast 2 or three trustees here
asap and lets start the job.
We can make a PANZ village there for atleast 1000 people as our funds do
cover the tents, medicines, blankets and volunteers, foods etc.
And If you want a show than I have no problem to go and meet the Pak
President and give himn the cheque in front of hundred cameras. Or shake
hand with Edhi and come on the front page of newspaers here.
But know I am going to go there my self with my personal help for the
victoms If the association decided to look at reality and realy want to help
not show than lets start it. I alredy contacted three persons in the most
affected areas and they will be helpfull in co-ordination.

KIA IS PARCHAM KAY HUM AYK HAIN?
Pakistan association of Wallington has sent its collection money to Edhi trust and Pakistan association of Christchurch has sent its money to red cross, said president of Pakistan association of NZ
pANZ is largest of all Pakistani communities in NZ , which is based in Auckland , this is the time we should forward our hand toward these other pak communities living in other city of NZ, we need a coordinated action, in matter like National disaster or other National issues, Now as reports suggest that as we are going to have embassy in NZ, it would be a good idea to make a federation of all Pakiwi associations in NZ, where we can have a collective approach to National level issues, because in govt papers we should be Pakistani of NZ, not Pakistanis of Christ church or Pakistanis of Wallington

"CLOSE BUT NO CIGARS".
I have been talking to few people back home and getting emails and reports that there are chances of people left behind who are devasted for food clothes etc in government control welfare organizations. I have gathered info on that. Please email me at info@financezone.co.nz.
We wouldnt like Pak govt to take these needy people politically. Govt has weak and unreliable infrastracture in terms of direct aid to people in the nothern areas including Kashmir. We have other option for Edhi Welfare. Who is not only well know welfare organisation but I have seen and worked with them in troubled times in 1988 in Islamabad. I must say that this is an integrity matter for pak community around NZ. We as a community will not let anybody to jeopardize on the community integrity and value.
I urge the senior members of the community to take part into this issue and resolve that accordingly. It will be shame for you if we let these people fight over the donation like this. Whoever is doing this will have to confront the community one day or the other. If your aim is to make the GOP or high commission happy I guess you have minimised your responsibilty and after making all that effort you are "CLOSE BUT NO CIGARS".
Ultimatum!
Sohni Dharti appreciate its member who are talking part in this referendum
We are experiencing a lot of new ID s emerging just to swing the community opinion, from tomorrow morning all new ID s will not be able to cast their vote, we sorry to do it but this is necessary evil we have to impose on Sohni Dharti to make this referendum transparent
Today in favour of President ……83 vote
Today in favour of Edhi trust……29 vote

Informing President of Pakistan Concerning the Presidents earthquake relief Fund
I am Javeed Iqbal from New Zealand. I was born in Lahore Pakistan. I am a member of Pakistan Community in New Zealand - Auckland. I am writing to inform the govt. of Pakistan about the decision made by our community leaders in New Zealand - Auckland. There is a big argument going on in the Pakistani Community here about which organization the relief fund raised for the quake victims should go to. Majority of Pakistani Community who have donated to this cause wish that this fund should go to President's Earthquake Relief Fund. The 2 conflicting organizations are Edhi Welfare Society and President's Earthquake Relief Fund. Pakistani community leaders and a few business men here have hijacked the Pakistani community and instead of helping the quake victims they are playing politics. These are the very same people who were around the President of Pakistan like his tail during his visit to New Zealand and were even willing to kiss his hands. I wish to inform that during the President Musharraf's visit to New Zealand the elected president of Pakistani community was Mr. Akram, soon after President Musharraf left New Zealand the elected president of Pakistani community was sacked and replaced by Naveed Hamid who is the current president of our community in New Zealand. He is the one responsible for this decision of sending collected funds to Edhi Trust. According to the Pakistani community's members view the current president is illegally in the position of president because during the community elections he had filled in forms for vice president not president. He had become president from vice president by support of few business men who have hijacked the Pakistani community here. The chief executives of Pakistani community had announced a new election long time back which are still not held and Mr. Naveed Hamid continues to stay as president of community and make his own decision from which his businessmen friends benefit. The Business community have only raised NZ$ 20,000 and normal Pakistanis living here have raised around NZ$ 70,000 by their hard work and door to door collections for the funds. When we collected the money we had done so by using the name of Pakistan Earthquake victims and that this collected fund will go to Govt. of Pakistan’s relief fund. Also most of the people that donated the money had donated for the President Earthquake Relief fund and not any individual organization in Pakistan. Now after the funds have been raised the president of community has betrayed the decision, we as community members will not tolerate that this raised money will go to an individual in Pakistan rather the Govt. of Pakistan which is responsible for all the operation to help the earthquake victims. If our community president sends all this raised funds to some other organization and not to Presidents Earthquake relief fund then this person does not trust Pakistani President or the Govt. of Pakistan and his thinking is that they are al corrupt and will keep this raised money for their own. This person has clearly forgotten that he has got a Pakistani passport on the basis of this very same Pakistani Govt. and authorization of the same Pakistani President himself who he calls corrupt. In our, The Pakistani community of New Zealand's view this person is unfaithful to the whole Pakistani community of New Zealand and the Govt. Of Pakistan. According to my information regarding this issue various of our community member are holding meetings that if the President of Pakistan Community finalized his decision to send this money to any other organization other then Presidents Earthquake Relief Fund then this issue will be taken to Auckland District Court (New Zealand) because this is public money. This will only delay the funds reaching to the earthquake victims but we feel that it should go to its rightful place. If he decides to send all this money straight to Presidents Earthquake Relief Fund perhaps he will get some respect for his presidency of community in next election opportunity.
Below I am attaching the copy of discussions and views held by our members on our local community website. The community website (SohniDharti – http://groups.msn.com/SohniDharti/) is also doing a electronic referendum and majority of the people want this collected fund to go to Presidents Earthquake Relief Fund.
Thanking You,
Yours Truly,
Javeed Iqbal

NOTE: I am not any politician and not interested in any of the receipts issued for donation. I am becoming part of this because this is an issue concerning our country leader and the victims of earthquake in our homeland.

Health Tips For Ramadaan
Consume Slow Digesting Foods
In view of the long hours of fasting, we should consume slow digesting foods including fibre containing-foods rather than fast-digesting foods. Slow digesting foods last up to 8 hours, while fast-digesting foods last for only 3 to 4 hours.
Slow-digesting foods are foods that contain grains and seeds like barley, wheat, oats, millet, semolina, beans, lentils, wholemeal flour, unpolished rice, etc. (called complex carbohydrates). Fast-burning foods are foods that contain sugar, white flour, etc. (called refined carbohydrates).
Fibre-containing foods are bran-containing foods, whole wheat, grains and seeds, vegetables like green beans, peas, sem (papry), marrow, mealies, spinach, and other herbs like methie, the leaves of beetroot (iron-rich), fruit with skin, dried fruit especially dried apricots, figs and prunes, almonds, etc..
The foods eaten should be well balanced, containing foods from each food group, i.e. fruits, vegetables, meat/chicken/fish, bread/cereals and dairy products. Fried foods are unhealthy and should be limited. They cause indigestion, heartburn, and weight problems.
AVOID
*Fried and fatty foods.
*Foods containing too much sugar.
*Over-eating especially at sehri.
*Too much tea at sehri. Tea makes you pass more urine taking with it valuable mineral salts that your body would need during the day.
*Smoking cigarettes. Smoking is unhealthy and one should stop completely.
EAT
Eat complex carbohydrates at sehri so that the food lasts longer making you less hungry. Haleem is an excellent source of protein and is a slow-burning food. Dates are excellent source of sugar, fibre, carbohydrates, potassium and magnesium. Almonds are rich in protein and fibre with less fat. Bananas are a good source of potassium, magnesium and carbohydrates.
DRINK
As much water or fruit juices as possible between iftar and bedtime so that your body may adjust fluid levels in time.
CONSTIPATION
Constipation can cause piles (haemorroids), fissures and indigestion with a bloated feeling.
Remedy: Avoid excessive refined foods, increase water intake, and use bran in baking, brown flour when making roti.
LETHARGY ('low blood pressure')
Excessive sweating, weakness, tiredness, lack of energy, dizziness, especially on getting up from sitting position, pale appearance and feeling faint are symptoms associated with "low blood pressure". This tends to occur towards the afternoon.
Causes: Too little fluid intake, decreased salt intake.
Remedy: Keep cool, increase fluid and salt intake.
Caution: Low blood pressure should be confirmed by taking a blood pressure reading when symptoms are present. Persons with high blood pressure may need their medication adjusted during Ramadan. They should consult their doctor.
HEADACHE
Causes: Caffeine and tobacco-withdrawal, doing too much in one day, lack of sleep, hunger usually occurs as the day goes by and worsens at the end of the day. When associated with "low blood pressure", the headache can be quite severe and can also cause nausea before Iftar.
Remedy: Cut down caffeine and tobacco slowly starting a week or two before Ramadan. Herbal and caffeine-free teas may be substituted. Reorganise your schedule during the Ramadan so as to have adequate sleep.
LOW BLOOD SUGAR
Remedy: Eat something at sehri and limit sugar-containing foods and drinks.
Caution: Diabetics may need to adjust their medication in Ramadan, consult your doctor.
MUSCLE CRAMPS
Causes: Inadequate intake of calcium, magnesium and potassium foods.
Remedy: Eat foods rich in the above minerals (e.g. vegetables, fruit, dairy products, meat and dates).
Caution: Those on high blood pressure medication and with kidney stone problems should consult their doctor.
PEPTIC ULCERS, HEART BURN, GASTRITIS AND HIATUS HERNIA
KIDNEY STONES
JOINT PAINS
Causes: During Ramadan, when extra salah are performed the pressure on the knee joints increases. In the elderly and those with arthritis this may result in pain, stiffness, swelling and discomfort.
You should always consult with your own personal doctor or healthcare provider for appropriate advice concerning your specific health needs and care during Ramadan.
