Blood Balti Day

Chained by religion, stringed by state, bound by culture , we have put an iron shackle around us, today , at least for one day  we are breaking it and that day is Blood Balti . Today we , all of us have proved that when Its come to help human , humanity  don’t reckon chains and it has no boundaries

A human life is most precious thing in universe  , blessed are those who come out to give blood and save life

I normally don’t take my hat off for someone but today, in ultimate respect   my hat goes off for those who gathered here for a great cause to donate the gift of life BLOOD

Today 10 Jan 2012 on Blood Balti day more then 150 people walked in to enjoy a colorful day with BBQ and music, for a great cause of humanity, 64 have made blood Bank. It was good Party with massive Nonstop BBQ marathon and lives cooking on spot. Sohni Dharti thanks to all who came with families and kids we believe in future these kids would the custodian of Blood Balti.

 Our hearty thanks to our young man Sheheryar Moon for his dedication to Blood Balti by doing all photography and videos. Plus inviting his friends from Avondale collage. He truly deserved the MAN OF DAY award. Although we cannot offer him worldly reward “good deed need no reward , as it is a reward itself’ Guru Granth

On cooking side Haji Mumtaz and Raja Neeam Alam did excellent job, they made Bariani and Balti Chicken on the spot which appreciated by all.

A double up thanks to Mr. Bhatti and his family for making this Blood Balti so colorful, a special thanks to Mr. Bhatti’s daughter, Hina who preached Blood Balti among her friends and persuade to come to Blood Balti . I would like to quote from Quran “One life saved means humanity”

Few years back. While taking needle out of my arm, nurse said “another life saved”. How does it feel? No dictionary can explain it. You have to donate blood to feel that feeling.

Recipe of Blood Balti

(1)First of all find a person who is generous enough to donate

 

 (2) Find a suitable hall with 100 to 150 capacities and get the permission to do the BBQ from city council (Thanks to Blood Bank we don’t need it any more)

 

(3) Contact blood bank, tell them your plan with date and time,

 

(4) Arrange meeting of good friends 

 

(5) Design invitation posters (best size A3) and smaller pamphlets to distribute

 

(6) Paste A3 poster every Desi site or creat an ad on Face Book.

 

(7) Don’t let any opportunity to slips away to advertise it where ever it’s possible

 

(8) Start taking name and mobile numbers of potential blood donors it should take good 4 to 5 weeks to get to the point

 

(9) Start sanding them a friendly reminder about date, time, and place every week by text messages

 

(10) Call another meeting of friends gets suggestion from them

 

(11) Request to Molanas of Masjids to announce it Jumma prayer. Do same to Mander and Gurduara Sahib.

 

(12) Sand fax to radio tarana and radio appna

 

(14) a week before Blood Balti,  invite Blood Balti meeting again , as no one can do everything , sort out the duties , remember don’t push just go with flow

 

(15) Cleanup your BBQ, have a test drive if possible

 

(16) Order meat and mince, must delivered on Blood Balti eve to be mixed and marinate. Fridge all meat after marinating

 

(17) Get everything ready in order well in time to have good sleep

 

(18) Blood Balti day you and your team have whole day to prove the moment of truth.

 

(19) As no function is mistake free. Call a post Blood Balti Meeting ASAP. Talk about mistakes and learn from it.

Dear Zubair Salim (Billa G)   I think you have quite a few committed blood donors have come forward.  We can go ahead and fix a date.   Personally I would love to donate, and I had been donating blood.  But since last year I am on medication and that's the reason I have not come forward.   However I can assure the readers, once again, that within FIFTEEN minutes of giving one pint of blood, our body is so systemised that it pumps the Compressed Red Blood Cells into the blood stream.  That's a "Defence Mechanism", Allah Subhana oo Taala has created in our body.  In fact it's to compensate the body, of blood, in case of an emergency, say one got an accident and have bled.  The bone marrow "Gooda" in "Nalli" is the store for these compressed cells and specially the one in our chest bone that's called "Sternum".  That's the reason, that our "Oldies" were so very fond of having Nahari and Payey.   As I have said before it is a complex physiological process,  however, in common terms, let's say that when you are relaxing after the donation, at the centre for 15 minutes, your body will recoup the same amount of blood that's given.    So, in short, once one goes off from Billa G's house and come back after donation, ready for Balti Goshat, their body would have the same amount of blood in their body.   Any more volunteers for "Balti Goshat".  Contact immediately.  Time is short.  I understand Labour Weekend is the target!!!!!!  There is a Sale at "Khan's Halal Meat" in Sandringham !!!! Hi Billa G,

 Thanks once again for being tremendous and organising your members to donate blood. I have attached a poster and a checklist for Sohni Dharti’s Blood Balti. Feel free to forward these onto everyone and/or print some off to display in your common areas. If you need anything changed on the poster then let me know.

As always it is very important that those interested in giving blood have had sufficient fluids and have had something to eat prior to donating, but since you are providing food that shouldn’t be a problem 

 you could remind them to bring their ID (driver’s licence, passport or their donor card), this is very important as ID is required every time someone donates and they will not be able to save lives by giving blood if they have no ID on them.  

 If you have any concerns or queries before the donation day then please do not hesitate to get in touch with me. I look forward to seeing the guys from Sohni Dharti on Tuesday 10th of January .  Thank you so much for your help – I couldn’t do it without you – makes me proud to know you

What is Blood Balti?

 

Blood Balti is combination of two words Blood stand for Blood and Balti has two meanings of it. Balti stand for bucket or container and Balti stand for a Punjabi dish cooked in wok.

 

So Blood Bank brings a Balti (bucket) in shapes of bags, to collect Blood. We bring Balti (wok) in shape of dish. Sohni Dharti invites peoples from all walks of life to donate Blood

 

What is Sohni Dharti?

 

Sohni Dharti is a web based group of few people who are organizing Blood Balti every year since 2002.

 

Where do these Blood donations go?

 

Blood bank of NZ. is sole provider of all blood requirements of blood in NZ's hospitals, Blood Bank collect it process it and send it whenever it is required. To meet the demand blood bank need healthy blood donors all the time. Specially during holidays because need of blood don’t stop

 

Do I have to donate blood if I come to Blood Balti?

 

NO! Neither it is compulsory nor is it a condition to join Blood Balti. Just come along bring a friend or two with you enjoy FREE BBQ, Music and Gup Shup. It is all about educating and brings awareness to our community that how a little act of donating blood can change the world of recipient.

If find good idea and have capacity to turn in to task rather then tusk. Godly forces of good gathering on on that focal point, then fountain of good erupts and mankind enjoy. There’s nothing good if it not good for human and humanity in Guru Granth sahib it says ”Humanity, Nimrata is the “Mool” (root), the “Tatt” (core), the very seed and foundation of all the Divine Virtues of the Lord"

Quran Kareem said "one human saved means humanity"

 Gita Saar says "By God's blessings. Let us together join our mental forces in strength (-veeryam) for the benefit of humanity”

I am blood donor since 1997. Every time I donated blood I felt great a kind of lightness with senses that I have saved some one’s life. After creating sohni dharti. Idea struck that we can use this community platform to advertised blood donation campaign. Sohni dharti was first community web site it very new to community.  Only few months old when we announced first blood balti, we did it just for fun sake, it starred from my place in penrose. Nine people gathered we had massive BBQ and big lunch then we off to blood bank whole plan was already coordinated  with blood bank all of us donated blood came back to my place for another round of BBQ dinner, everybody was happy, gathering ended with this that we will do this again. When we launched first blood balti we did not know we will take it this far that parliament of New Zealand will echo with name of Sohni Dharti and we will be declared "the best" in blood bank. Off course "the best"make us tall on same time we are humble too, it was not possible without help of haji mumtaz , raja naeem alam , jamshaid ul hassan, javed iqbal and generosity of mr. bhatti who is sponsor of blood balti for last many years.

Becoming "the best" maybe not that hard but keeping the best would not be easy. God willing, with the help of friends we accept this challenge. WE promise to ourselves that we will deliver the best.

Every good cause, big or small has its stages of toll and triumph, a thought, a start , a struggle and success. Success of blood balti is a very small human effort in will of Almighty God for human to survive and thrive.

Blood Balti 2012 would be our tenth blood balti.
