PM Pakistan Address to Nation

Dear brothers and sisters,

In my address to the Nation on 7 May 2009, I informed all Pakistanis that the armed forces of Pakistan had been ordered to launch operations against militants and terrorists in Swat and Malakand.

The Government of Pakistan cannot permit the continuation of the situation brought about by the activities of militants and extremists. We are determined to protect the life and property of all our people at all cost. There will be no compromise on Pakistan’s sovereignty and independence.

The PPP led Government has always pursued the path of reconciliation. We took seriously the situation in Swat and made all efforts to resolve the issue through dialogue. We respected the agreement signed by the NWFP Government. The parliament gave its consent to the agreement. The President then signed it. The agreement envisaged the enforcement of Nazam-e-Adl Regulations to assure peace and justice to the people of Swat. The militants were to lay down their arms. They did not keep their part of the agreement and started taking hostile actions against the constitution, parliament, democracy and judiciary which amounted to challenging the writ of the government. Their actions and rhetoric against women and girls were reprehensible.

The aggressive actions of the militants have forced hundreds of thousands of people in the Swat Valley and in other parts of NWFP to migrate from their homes to elsewhere in Pakistan. These Pakistani brothers and sisters, young and elderly, deserve our full attention and care. The Government has taken immediate steps to address this humanitarian situation. This includes: (a) provision of Rs. One billion to the NWFP Government for rehabilitation; (b) commitment to provide employment to one member of the family that lost a member to the barbarity of the militants. I have also asked for international support for assistance to these displaced persons.

While the Government is committed to meet all needs, our resources are limited. I call upon all my Pakistani brothers and sisters to assist the Government of Pakistan in helping the internally displaced from Swat and other parts of the NWFP.

The Prime Minister’s Relief Fund for the internally displaced from Swat/NWFP has been set up. I urge you to make generous contributions to help these displaced brethren. Also, I have set up a special task force to coordinate a comprehensive strategy aimed at meeting the relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction requirements of the internally displaced. You may also wish to provide support in kind.

At his critical moment in the history of Pakistan, all Pakistanis must show their resolve to combat militancy, terrorism and extremism. Let us prove, once again, that we as a nation are united to support the armed forces and the Government of Pakistan to defeat the designs of those who want to take the Pakistan of Quaid-e-Azam and Allama Iqbal hostage. Let us work together to realize the vision of Pakistan as a moderate, progressive and forward-looking democratic Islamic state.

Talking with Sohni Dharti former executive of Pakistan association Nadeem Ashraf said we should organize something to collect donations for victims of Swat valley
Nadeem said he will talk with Naveed to make strategy about this matter
Sohni Dharti suggested that PANZ is registered charitable organization and representative of PAK community , everything like this should be done under PANZ's banner. PANZ should open a special account only to meet the accountability and transparency
Nadeem said he will do collection on his own behalf and hand it over to PANZ

Yes of-course we must do something about it. US has just approved 100million dollars for the displaced people and within Pakistan lots of help is pouring yet have any of our billionair leaders have donated a cent? Is there any guarantee that those 100million will reach the deserving people. If at all the funds have to be raised it must be through the proper channel of PANZ and need not be for the big name of few individuals.

Mr Arif and Mr Yousaf of Pakistani Students Association (PSA) told last evening that they have so far collected $1500 by selling foods in University and donation. They want to collect more money and made contact with the Imam of Masjid e Umer. So this Friday, donation will be collected in Masjid e Umer, Stoddard Road Mt. Roskill. Next Friday food will be prepared by the Masjid people and all sale proceed will go to the same fund. Br Zeb and Br Aurangzeb will donate materials. One of the representative is going to Pakistan in the first week of June and he has been assigned the job by PSA for distribution of funds to local people there. This meeting was also attended by Imam and one Trustee beside Muhammad Ajmal and myself. Any such cause must be supported and promoted. Unfortunately PANZ itself have not been able to do such things because its roof is not there and side walls are damaged. We should consider a meaningful PANZ and the time is already overdue. Frankly we are to blame for the current condition of PANZ but still it is not that late. Muhammad Qaiser Siddiqui

$6400 is collected by 25 Pakistani Busniess community for victims of Swat valley , target was $10000 , we understand the global down fall in bussniess . All money will go PM funds account through Pakistan Embassy .
This is time for PWCS and Dr. Wasim Ketan to shine , although these both parties are out of main screen but they have capability to make the deference .
On other hand Pak students are doing very well.
PANZ has admitted its limited or no ability to bring these all parties together on one platform

I congratulate Pakistan business community for collection of funds for the victims of swat valley , at same time I must say $6400 only is not enough where we have millionaire in our community who can afford $6400 each . In a telephone conversation from London he said swat valley is crisis for Pakistan and it is our obligation to help our Pakistani brother and sisters who passing through tough time .he said he coming back to NZ. soon , PANZ team will launch a fund rising campaign.
