A True Story Of Devotion From Chakwal

by Sikandar Ali

The forces of good and evil are always at war with each other in this world. These forces use to create different characters which, with the time being, come at this land in different shapes. It is something natural that these characters grow up in separate environment the nature of one character is different from other. Then the time comes when both reach at examination center. There is a big difference between these characters. One becomes favorite to God and the other dies forever. One is Abraham and the other is Numrood. Ghazi Mureed Hussain is one of these favorite and sacred characters who sacrificed his life for the love of Holy Prophet (PBUH). Almost fifty kilometers to the North of Rawalpinid, there is a region, known as Dhan. From the North East of famous City Chakwal, and Six kilometers towards Choah Sadan Shah, there is village, named Bhalla. Mureed Hussain belonged to this village and Kahooat family. He was born on 24th Feb 1914. His father Abdullah was a great land owner and numberdar of the village. He was only five years old when his father died and the entire burden of bringing this child up was shifted to his mother`s shoulders. He got his religious education from the khateeb of the mosque, Syed Mohammad shah. He completed his primary education from kariala. For getting more education, he got admission in G. H. S. Chakwal. He passed his matriculation in 1933-34 with brilliant marks. At that time, there was no proper arrangement of higher education. The burden of domestic duties was also increasing day by day, so he decided to finish his education at that stage. As he was a great land owner, he had to adopt the profession of farming. But he kept himself in touch with books. He read newspapers and was fully aware of current affairs. A great personality of Chishtian, Hazrat Khawja Abdul Aziz (May God bless him) of Chachar Shrief district Sargodha was at higher spiritual post at that time. Mureed Hussain turned to Khawja Sahib for extinguishing the fire of spiritualism. He was engaged to his cousin Amir Bano since his childhood. His mother compelled him and he was married in 1935. Mureed Hussain loved Holy Prophet (PBUH) with full devotion and spent much of time in the worship of God Almighty. God liked the ways and manners of Mureed Hussain and conferred upon him a great and high post. In 1936, newspaper "The Zamindar" published a news "Palool's Ass". According to this newspaper, the incharge doctor of Animal hospital Palool, Ram Gopal named his ass with the name of Holy Prophet (PBUH). With the publication this news, Muslims all over the world were so much annoyed and felt great concern and furcated. They raised many strikes British government, instead of punishing Hindu Doctor, transferred him to Nornond district Hassar which was more safe place for him,. The disobedience of Ram Gopal was not a trivial incident but intolerable for a true Muslim. Every lover of Holy Prophet (PBUH) burned in fury and indignation. He made up his mind to scarify his life but determined to teach the lesson to this shameful and wrong doer. so that no one could do this kind of act in future. He gathered information to kill the doctor. He reached Delhi via Lahore because he could plan better to kill him. After staying few days at Dehli he went to Nornond. He attacked Ram Gopal with full courage and openly on 7th August 1936 and sent him to the hell. He did not run away after killing him and few hours later police came and arrested him. So Mureed Hussain was changed into Ghazi Murred Hussain. The murder of Dr. Ram Gopal caused a great mourning and bewailing in Hindus. On the other hand, Muslims were happy and thankful to Ghazi Mureed Hussain who without caring for his life, performed a great duty. Dr. Ram Gopal belonged to higher sect of Hindus. The law suit was carried on against Ghazi Mureed Hussain and judges of their favor were appointed in the court of Hassar. Due to prejudiced Hindu judge, Mureed Hassain bycotted. This made the judge more angry and he gave him punishment of death. In session court, the appeal was accepted. Many Muslims advocates advocated for Mureed Hussain. They told him that could be saved but he always confessed boldly and clearly. So he was given death punishment. In Lahore high court, finally, appeal was submitted. Many efforts were made and different methods were adopted to change the statement of Mureed Hussain but he remained very firm. Even, at last, the struggle of declaring him mad was made and he was sent to mental hospital Lahore. But he refused to become mad for saving life. So high court restored the previous decision and Ghazi Mureed Hussain accepted it very boldly and happily. He was hanged to death on 24th of September 1937 on Friday. This was the happiest day for Ghazi Mureed Hussain because he was going to the heaven to meet his God and his Prophet (PBUH) for ever. He was offering darood and salams. After this his sacred body was brought to his native village Bhalla where he was buried in " GHAZI MAHEL" to the North of Bhallah. In this way he proved that it is the dignity of true servants of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) not to hesitate to scarify their lives. Ghazi Mureed Hussain is alive. Thousands of people come to his mazar to pay tribute to him with complete devotion and love.

Benefit Of Doubt

One night there was a woman at the airport who had to wait for several hours before catching her next flight. While she waited she bought a book and pack of biscuits to spend the time. She looked for a place to sit and waited. She was deep into her book, when suddenly she realized that there was a young man sitting next to her who was stretching his hand, with no concern whatsoever, and grabbing the pack of cookies lying between them.

He started to eat them one by one. Not wanting to make a fuss about it she decided to ignore him. The woman, slightly bothered, ate the cookies and watched the clock, while the young and shameless thief of biscuits was also finishing them. The woman started to get really angry at this point and thought "If I wasn't such a good and educated person, I would have given this daring man a black eye by now." Every time she ate a biscuit, he had one too. The dialogue between their eyes continued and when only one biscuit was left, she wondered what was he going to do. Softly and with a nervous smile, the young man grabbed the last biscuit and broke it in two. He offered one half to the woman while he ate the other half. Briskly she took the biscuit and thought, "What an insolent man! How uneducated! He didn't even thank me!".

She had never met anybody so fresh and sighed. Relieved to hear her flight announced. She grabbed her bags and went towards the boarding gate refusing to look back to where that insolent thief was seated. After boarding the plane and nicely seated, she looked for her book which was nearly finished by now. While looking into her bag she was totally surprised to find her pack of biscuits nearly intact. If my biscuits are here, she thought feeling terribly, those others were his and he tried to share them with me.

Too late to apologize to the young man, she realized with pain, that it was her who had been insolent, uneducated and a thief, and not him.

>> How many times in our lives, had we known with certainty that something happened in a certain way, only to discover later that it wasn't true? How many times has our lack of trust within us made us judge other people unfairly with our conceited ideas, often far away from reality. That is why we have to think twice before we judge others. Let's always give others the benefit of the doubt before we think badly of them.

We thank you all

Thanks for appreciation and encouragement. I did what I should have done as a member of PANZ cabinet. I am a strong believer in keeping the promises and delivering the good. We have pledged to follow a manifesto and we should stick to it through thick and thin. This is what I have always spoken to my colleagues in PANZ cabinet and have passionately advocated throughout. We are answerable to the community and the greatest pleasure is to come victorious of the accountability process than to avoid it.

Hasting Car Accident was a huge tragedy and required huge efforts. While I share the grief of the bereaved and pray for the eternal peace of the deceased, I am also proud of the community that manifested best out of it and unveiled the latent feelings of caring and sharing in time of the tragedy. A task that seemed mountainous became trivial to the extent that we managed to get unprecedented amount in Funeral Fund. PANZ was active in two different sectors, one was led by PANZ President Tanveer Syed and Khurram in Auckland while the second one was being managed solely by me in Hastings and areas like Palmerston North, Wellington and Christ Church. Apart from being in Hastings and taking care of every thing, Thanks God I also managed to collect almost 13,000NZ$ in donation for the funeral fund. PANZ President and his team had done brilliant effort in Auckalnd by collecting more than 10,000NZ$. Exact amount and expenses are going to be announced within next two days. It is hoped others will also follow the example.

Recent PANZ Cabinet meeting decided unanimously and strictly to keep every penny of the Funeral Fund for the very purpose it is established for. Thanks God now we have a strong funeral fund to take care of future urgency or mishaps. PANZ also decided to make a separate special committee to handle and decide about norms and usage of the Funeral Fund. Contributions are being still taken for this fund and donors are most welcome.

PANZ once again salutes to the people and their passion. Salute to the other groups and individuals, notables and elders who got together and set aside differences. While we all shared the tragedy with unity, it is not bad to remain one even in normal times. The power of being and remaining one can surpass the heavy odds with immaculate ease.

PANZ did its duty. It is satisfying that we were there in the time of need and lead the campaign with vigour. However keeping the flame high and remaining active all the times (not in patches) is a task PANZ Cabinet members should attend to. Collective not individual efforts build the institution.

COPY OF HIGH COMMISSIONER’S LETTER

COPY OF HIGH COMMISSIONER’S LETTER

TO THE EDITOR OF SYDNEY MORNING HERALD

No. Pol. 28/96-00 4 March, 2003

Dear Editor,

This is with reference to Mike Seccombe’s comments "PM’s Pakistan pin-up is a poor choice" (Sydney Morning Herald, 4 March, 2003).

2. The allegations which are totally baseless, motivated and malicious, were earlier on made by the US media in October, 2002 and were categorically refuted by President General Pervez Musharraf, who had reiterated Pakistan’s firm commitment to nuclear non-proliferation and stated that Pakistan was not cooperating with any country, including North Korea. Pakistan’s commitment, affirmed at the highest level that it would not export any sensitive technologies to third countries remains unquestionable.

3. The US Secretary of State Colin Powell, during his interview with the NBC and ABC on 20 October 2002, had clearly stated that the President of Pakistan had assured him that Pakistan was not doing anything of that nature and that he had taken his word for it. Similar views were also expressed by the US National Security Adviser in an interview with the CNN. It is, therefore, clear that the US leadership did not give any weightage to the baseless and speculative allegations, leveled against Pakistan by the US media.

4. It is re-emphasized that Pakistan is fully aware of its responsibilities and is firmly committed not to share its nuclear technology, equipment etc. with any other country. Pakistan firmly believes in nuclear non-proliferation and would continue to work for promoting global as well as regional non-proliferation.

Yours sincerely,

(Khizar Hayat Khan Niazi)

"Letters to the Editor",

The Sydney Morning Herald

Sydney

Muslim Ummah ,

Your Highnesses Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, the Emir of Qatar,

Your Majesties,

Your Highnesses,

Secretary General OIC,

Excellencies,

Distinguished delegates,

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I thank His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, Emir of the State of Qatar for convening this Extraordinary Session of the OIC Summit and for his gracious hospitality. I would like to thank the Secretary General OIC for helping to implement this important initiative. This initiative responds to the challenge that the Muslim Ummah is facing at this crucial juncture. The need for high-level consultations on Iraq was never so urgent. Pakistan recommits to working constructively with our brothers in the OIC to help find a peaceful solution to the Iraq crisis.

For over a decade, the people of Iraq have witnessed the escalation of suffering and poverty in their country - a country which should be amongst the most prosperous and advanced in the Islamic world; a country whose capital was the Islamic epicenter in the golden years of our civilization. The people of this great civilization are faced with the sad prospects of a devastating war.

We are gathered here today to try to prevent this war and to find a peaceful solution to the present crisis. Pakistan, as a member of the Security Council, is particularly concerned that a war would further intensify the suffering of the Iraqi people. A war could threaten the unity and territorial integrity of Iraq. A war could throw this entire region into a spiral of instability that could increase the very dangers that it would seek to avoid. It is the duty of the Islamic countries, to do everything in their power, to prevent these adverse consequences. Pakistan suggests that this Summit meeting should seek the following actions by Iraq and by the UN Security Council to avert the use of force.

First, we must impress upon Iraq to comply fully and faithfully with the resolutions of the UN Security Council to avoid war, death and destruction. UN Security Council resolution 1441 demands "active, immediate and unconditional" cooperation in the process of elimination of Iraq’s WMD capabilities. This is in Iraq’s own supreme interest. It must not provide any justification for the use of force against it. President Saddam Hussain should explore all options to save the people of Iraq from death and destruction on an unprecedented scale.

Pakistan welcomes the increasing cooperation which Iraq has been extending to the UNMOVIC and the IAEA. We trust that Iraq’s cooperation will continue to be forthcoming in order to establish, beyond doubt, the sincerity of the Iraqi Government in the elimination of its weapons of mass destruction. In this context, we hope that Iraq will respond positively to the early completion of the "key disarmament tasks" identified by the UNMOVIC.

Secondly, we urge those who have declared their readiness to use force to disarm Iraq to give peace a chance. Pakistan believes that a peaceful solution to this crisis is still possible. Military timetables should not terminate efforts to exhaust the diplomatic options for a peaceful solution. The cost of delay will be much less than the cost of war.

Thirdly, this Summit meeting must also ask the U.N. Security Council to continue to explore all the possible paths to a peaceful solution. The Council, and particularly its 5 permanent members, are divided on this issue. Pakistan believes that an agreed approach can be evolved. We should identify the measures that could establish beyond doubt the effectiveness and credibility of the U.N. inspections process to be able to convince the international community that the elimination, and verification of the elimination, of Iraq’s WMD capabilities can be achieved peacefully in a relatively short time. The necessary time must be given to the inspectors to complete their work. We could thus avoid a potentially disastrous war.

PAKISTAN DAY 23RD MARCH 2003

MESSAGE FROM GENERAL PERVEZ MUSHARRAF PRESIDENT ISLAMIC REPUBLIC OF PAKISTAN ON THE OCCASION OF

PAKISTAN DAY 23RD MARCH 2003

"23rd of March is a momentous day in history of our country. This day is observed every year to remind us of the historic resolve of the Muslims of South Asia, who on this very day in 1940 set out in the quest for an independent homeland of their own where they could live in peace, harmony and in accordance with the tenets of Islam.

It was the unanimous will of the Muslims of the South Asia which enabled the creation of Pakistan under the dynamic leadership of Qauid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah. This year the day has dawned with a new era of democracy and supremacy of the will of people.

It is our foremost national duty to remain steadfast and united for the complete realization of the ideals and aspirations for which Pakistan was created. As we remember those who worked relentlessly for the cause, the struggle has to be carried on against all those forces that are aimed at deflecting us from our cherished goal. I have complete confidence in the wisdom of our people and faith in their will to work together for achieving the objective.

Allah has gifted our people with immense capabilities. They have always faced up to every challenge in the past, whether it was related to the creation of Pakistan or to its defence. I am confident that our great people, who, under the peerless leadership of Quaid-e-Azam could create Pakistan, will pledge anew to abide by his guiding principles of Unity, Faith and Discipline for all times to come and make Pakistan an impregnable fortress to democracy, peace and progress.

Hot News (9th April)

CHAKWAL April 9.  The warm weather of Iraq will play a
decisive role in the coming seven days and allied
forces will have to face a very tuff time in uniforms
and as well as in the armory vehicles as the Iraq’s
Army had saved all its weapons as soon as the allied
forces will enter Baghdad and Basra and at this point
this will become a waterloo for the allied forces.
This was stated by Chief of Tanzeem Al-Akhwan Moulana
Muhammad Akram Awan while talking to the newsmen at
Dar-ul-Irfan Munara on Tuesday some 40 kilometer from
here.  Moulana Akram Awan was of the view that some
serious differences have been developed with American
President George Bush and British Prime Minister Tony
Blair as there is a dispute between these two so
called supper powers regarding the re-construction and
re-building of Iraq.  George Bush flew to Belfast to
convince the Tony Blair.  Moulana Akram Awan replying
to an other question told that the presidential
palaces of Saddam Hussain shown by the western media
is a white lie as such houses can be seen at Lahore or
Islamabad.  Moulana Akram Awan further told that the
according to the decided plan Saddam Hussain had
dragged all the allied forces near to Basra and
Baghdad and allied forces will have to face the music
when they entered into these two cities and the
outcome of the final battle will be in the streets of
Basra and Baghdad.  Moulana Akram Awan predicted that

Tragic Death in Hasting

We have got following comments from PANZ Vice President Mr. Shahid Azad regarding tragic accident that caused loss to couple of Pakistani nationals. This may be noted that Shahid Azad has specially gone to Hastings on behalf of Pakistan Association of New Zealand to take care of things and help dealing with the circumstances.

“ I am in Hasting where a small community of Pakistanis are in shock after the unfortunate car crash that has claimed the life on one Pakistani while the other is in very critical condition. Javeid of Melsi (Multan) has breathed his last and a chapter is closed.Every body knew the deceased and a genuine grief is prevailing. The agony of seeing and feeling “Death in Pardes” is resonant around and makes one sad. I went to the hospital and saw Amin Afaq lying on the bed and his condition was termed serious and critical by the staff on the duty. Let us pray God for the best and prepare for the worst. He had emailed us couple of times regarding PANZ Job Search help and had enquired about availability of Farm Work in Hasting. I didn`t know some times first encounters are so tragic.

But death is real and unavoidable and somehow or other we have to face it. In evening we sat with small group of Pak Students who are working on farms along with few businessmen. Mahr Akram and Altaf from Auckland
were also there since Javeid was their friend .

We knew that all of us have to share our grief and woes. Every body here is quite keen the dead ones should reach back to their homes as soon as possible and have contributed significantly to the Funeral Fund.

But it is Auckland where all of our hopes pinned upon since bulk of Pak community is residing there. We need heaps of money and effort to deal with the urgency and it is the right time when all of us, irrespective of who we are and with whom we stand, should get together and become one to lessen the burden and grief of the family of the deceased. Our tribute and cooperation lies in delivering the dead back to their family and the soil.

Come forward and donate generously in the Funeral Fund. Any body who wants to have update, can contact me on the following number
