MESSAGE FROM GENERAL PERVEZ MUSHARRAF PRESIDENT ISLAMIC REPUBLIC OF PAKISTAN ON THE OCCASION OF
PAKISTAN DAY 23RD MARCH 2003
"23rd of March is a momentous day in history of our country. This day is observed every year to remind us of the historic resolve of the Muslims of South Asia, who on this very day in 1940 set out in the quest for an independent homeland of their own where they could live in peace, harmony and in accordance with the tenets of Islam.
It was the unanimous will of the Muslims of the South Asia which enabled the creation of Pakistan under the dynamic leadership of Qauid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah. This year the day has dawned with a new era of democracy and supremacy of the will of people.
It is our foremost national duty to remain steadfast and united for the complete realization of the ideals and aspirations for which Pakistan was created. As we remember those who worked relentlessly for the cause, the struggle has to be carried on against all those forces that are aimed at deflecting us from our cherished goal. I have complete confidence in the wisdom of our people and faith in their will to work together for achieving the objective.
Allah has gifted our people with immense capabilities. They have always faced up to every challenge in the past, whether it was related to the creation of Pakistan or to its defence. I am confident that our great people, who, under the peerless leadership of Quaid-e-Azam could create Pakistan, will pledge anew to abide by his guiding principles of Unity, Faith and Discipline for all times to come and make Pakistan an impregnable fortress to democracy, peace and progress.
