Sohni Dharti. Man of the year 2012.

An icon for desi community .
Dr. Ashraf Choudhary had very low profile in Pak community. Thou he was very active in wider communities.  In 2002 he brought three ministers and four mp to address Pakistan community and hear the problems of our community. That’s where I first met Dr. Choudhary, a soft spoken well dressed gentleman. In My first reflection, all Politicians are same they have to put up smile in public. Time passes away. For many years we didn't go further then hand shake.
Earthquake 2005. One of the biggest disasters of Pakistan history when there was shortage of Pakistani volunteers in NZ.  He himself came there and helped us to load up container which was bound for Pakistan. That's where I became fan of him.

Few years later someone introduced me to him with reference of Blood Balti Dr. Choudhary showed me extra interest and said it is great cause and he would like to get involve in Bloods Balti
Blood Balti 2006 dr. Ashraf came to Blood Balti that was big encouragement for Sohni Dharti and donors. He offers us his full support. Once he asked that Blood Balti is becoming great event of community he would like share it financially, we told him since Mr. Bhatti is the sole sponsor of blood Balti we cannot accept any financial assistant
We find dr Ashraf is true philanthropist who feels the feeling of others. He is icon for desi community and pride of Pakistan.

Last night, on call of  PANZ and PAKBAZ, friends and families gather in Sudimia Hotel for his retirement party. It was speeches full on time, despite MC warnings of 3 min each, it seems everyone want say more and more to praise him as person, friend and politician.
High commissioner of Pakistan revealed the secret that soon Dr Ashraf Choudhary would be receiving a award from Govt of Pakistan for his contribution to community and humanity.
In his massage to community Dr Choudhary said, “to get these kinds of achievements we should get out of our shell”
Summary of all speeches were Dr. Ashraf Choudhary is a peoples man
For his contribution to community and humanity Sohni Dharti “Man of the year 2012” award presented to Dr. Ashraf Choudhary by Man of the day of Blood Balti 2012. Shairyar Raja

Amnesty says Muslims in Europe face discrimination

In this photo taken on July 24, 2010, a Muslim woman wearing a niqab is seen with children at Place Concorde in Paris, France.

By ASSOCIATED PRESS

PARIS: Amnesty International says in a new report that Muslims in several European countries face discrimination in hiring and daily life because of rules targeting their customs.

The report pays special attention to national laws or local rules against wearing headscarves or face-covering Islamic veils in countries such as France and Belgium.

The human rights group spoke to Muslims who have had trouble getting jobs or had to change schools because of discrimination.

It notes the rise in political movements that target Muslims or Muslim practices.

The report comes after far right leader Marine Le Pen scored a surprisingly strong third-place showing in France’s presidential elections. Her anti-immigrant platform singled out Muslim practices for criticism.

Pakistan Association Of New Zealand is pleased to announce the formation of a Joint committee after ongoing talks with  Pakistan New Zealand Chamber of Businesses and Professionals.

Dear All

Sub: Celebration of 66th India Independence at Aotea Centre on Sunday, 12th August 2012

Bhartiya Samaj Charitable Trust announces the Celebration of 66th India Independence Day at the ASB Theatre, Aotea Centre on Sunday, 12th of August 2012 from 10:30 AM to 3:00 PM.

We yet again wish to reflect upon the land-mark event in the history of India. India Independence Day is an occasion to rejoice the achievement of freedom to a new dawn in the life of India. We dedicate this prized moment in the honour of those brave countrymen who have sacrificed their lives to give us an opportunity to breathe in this air of freedom.

We wish to showcase the cultural diversity of India at the event and promote the motto of ‘Unity in Diversity’. Thus we invite all the community organisations to nominate at least one performance per organisation for the event. Even individuals and cultural groups are welcome to nominate their performances at the event.

We would love to see more organisations celebrate this land-mark event. We request organisations and event organisers to schedule their event in such a way that it does not overlap with the event organised by other organisations. We request organisations to schedule their celebrations accordingly. This would in turn help the audience and participants to be a part of multiple celebrations of India Independence Day.

Please remember that the Celebration of 66th India Independence by Bhartiya Samaj would be held on;

Time: 10:30 AM to 3:00 PM

Why Dr. Ashraf Choudhary?

Dr. Ashraf Choudhary made history in becoming the first-ever elected Pakistani and Muslim MP in New Zealand Parliament in 2002.

Dr. Choudhary was, until November 2008, the sole lawmaker representing people of South Asian origin, including those from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepale, and migrants from the Middle East. As a Member of Parliament for nine years, he shouldered the responsibilities of representing the views and opinions of the fastest growing segment of this NZ population.

During his parliamentary term he took many new initiatives previously unknown in NZ.

He made history by first time ever taking the Oath on the Quran in the Parliament, despite much criticism by non-Muslims at the time.

During his parliament term, he setup for the first time the Pakistan/New Zealand Parliamentarian Friendship Group as well as the NZ/Turkish Parliamentarian Friendship Group within the Parliament.

He started the celebration of Eid Ul fitr (and Diwali) in Parliament; a tradition which carries on to date and hopefully forever.

It was Dr Choudhary’s sole efforts that brought the first ever Head of state of Pakistan the then President of Pakistan, General Pervez Musharraf, to New Zealand, on an official visit in June 2005.

This visit resulted in bringing to NZ over 150 PhD students from Pakistan,  the first time ever establishment of Pakistan High Commission in Wellington, and much help from NZ to Pakistan Dairy industry establishment.

Dr Ashraf is a pioneer of many organisations. He established the Federation of Islamic Association of NZ (FIANZ) 32 years ago and later became its President. He was also the President of the Multiethnic Council of New Zealand; A National organisation representing all NZ ethnic communities.

During his early years in NZ, He helped establish many Mosques and Islamic centres. He established the Masjid at the Massey University Campus in Palmerston North in 1996; the first and only proper Mosque at a NZ University campus.

Dr Choudhary established the Pakistan-New Zealand Friendship Association Inc (PAKNZ) in 1995.

Dr. Ashraf Choudhary is professionally an agricultural engineering specialist. He is an international authority on zero or conservation tillage technology.

During his 26 years career as Assoc. Professor at Massey University before joining Parliament, Dr Choudhary developed the zero tillage equipment which he later popularised in Pakistan. Thousands of such drills are now produced in Daska and other cities in Pakistan and used by farmer to sow wheat crop in rice stubbles without prior tillage. To date this technology has saved millions of dollars in diesel fuel alone for Pakistan and increased wheat yield and farmer income.

During his career at Massey University, Dr Choudhary sponsored and gave postgraduate scholarships to many Pakistani students many of whom are now working in Pakistan and abroad.

During his Parliamentary career and before Dr Choudhary always took pride in interacting and bridge-building with wider ethnic communities. This brought much recognition by others for his contributions.  For example Dr Choudhary is currently the Patron of Many organisations which include:

Council of Christians and Muslims in Auckland

Bharatiya Samaj Trust

Multicultural Council of Manawatu

Chairman of the Advisory Board of Turkish Community (Pearl of Island Foundation)

It is fascinating to observe that after his retirement from Parliament, Dr Choudhary’s services have been formally recognised and honoured by many other ethnic communities throughout New Zealand . These include the Maori community, Sri Lankan, Indians, Sikh community and the Turkish community.

As a recognition of his contributions to both conservation tillage and community work he was honoured with Companion of the Queen Service Order (QSO) by the New Zealand Queen in 1998. He was also appointed as Justice of the Peace (JP) in 1996.

is it wrong if we honoring him for his work for Pakistan which saved millions of dollars  for Pakistan

A note from Australia

I've just returned from a brief visit to Australia where I was
invited to speak to the Australia New Zealand Leadership Forum,
and I met with Prime Minister Julia Gillard.

New Zealand and Australia are uniquely close and that was on
display for all to see during the Christchurch earthquakes.

But the growing gap between us has a real impact back home.

We don't have Australia's vast mineral wealth so we have to come
up with new and innovative solutions to grow our economy.

We need to be forward looking. As Sir Paul Callaghan was fond of
saying, we need to create a place where talent wants to live.

You could say that the issue around farm land ownership in New
Zealand is symptomatic of a broader concern about the direction
we're heading.

Many people I talk to are concerned that we're losing control of
our future as a country. As we sell more assets to overseas
investors and more profits flow offshore it makes it more
difficult for New Zealanders to get ahead.

If the Government does manage to go ahead with their asset sales,
we're only going to be more vulnerable to shocks in the global
economy.

In the coming weeks we'll be launching our campaign to support
the Citizens Initiated Referendum on asset sales. I'll have more
details for you on this shortly, and I hope you can get involved
.

Our future is directly linked to preserving our assets and our
natural advantages. I hope that you want to be a part of that
fight.

Cop the leeway.

Glad to see that Pakistan association is constutionaly complete now. We hope this New advisory commitee will work for the betterment of Pakistan community. Panz has seen a lots of up and downs .but for couples of years was nothing but puppet show, "aducated group'' didnot bother to read the constitution instead they danced on it and made fun of panz constution and Pakistan community. They did so bad to community that Jush e AZADI function of 3000-become only 300- attandance

Past couple of years saw lot of autocerasy . Mr. khan's hastile attitude toward community is not new.

Muslim league asked questlion , become cobra, someone wanted to donate funds to PANZ , were to told off by telling panz dont need any thing "keep your money for turm deposit''

Busniss community became ''bay ghaiter"

other become "barking dog"

Member parliment Dr. Ashraf choudhery wasnot invited on 14-aug for personal garduge

these are the alliment ,which brought shame to community.

Panz 2012- so far good . Resorting the honour of constitution and bringing back intagrty to commuity using every ways to cop the lee way.
