AL-QURAN

Surat At-Tawbah (The Repentance) - سورة التوبة

The mosques of Allah are only to be maintained by those who believe in Allah and the Last Day and establish prayer and give zakah and do not fear except Allah , for it is expected that those will be of the [rightly] guided.

The Imam

The Imam

His Selection

The Imam has to be selected with due care and attention because, in fact, he represents the holy Prophet in the mosque and his duties and responsibilities are of unique importance and significance in the religious system of Islam. Only such a person, therefore, should be appointed for this job, who is on the whole the best man available among the worshippers not only in matters of knowledge, righteousness, spirit of sacrifice and insight into religion (which are the necessary qualities of an Imam of the Muslims), but he should also possess leadership qualities to guide them in the practical affairs of life.

During his last illness, when the holy Prophet found himself unable to attend the mosque, he appointed Hadrat Abu Bakr as his representative, who was on the whole the best man among the Muslims. Though the ladies made repeated requests to the holy Prophet to appoint someone else because they thought Abu Bakr was a tender hearted man, the holy Prophet turned down their request every time and said: "Let Abu Bakr lead the people in Prayer." And Hadrat Abu Bakr then led the Prayer accordingly. Prayer being the most important duty in Islam, it can be held only by such a person who has the necessary calibre and qualities to represent Muslims before Allah and who is religiously the best person on the whole among the people.

Hadrat Abu Mas'ud has reported the holy Prophet as saying: "The Imam of the Muslims should be such a one who possesses the deepest knowledge and understanding of the Qur'an. If all are equal in this, the Imam should be the one who has the deepest knowledge of the Sunnah and Shari'ah. If all are equal in this, he should be the one who migrated first. And if all are equal in this too, then the one who is most senior in age." (Muslim)

"The deepest knowledge of the Qur'an" implies that he should have a special inclination and taste for the Qur'an. He should have committed a large portion of it to memory, and should be able to recite it well, and have deep insight into its meaning and contents and has understood and absorbed its message well. If all are equal in this quality, then the Imam should be a person who has profound knowledge of the Sunnah and Shari'ah regulations. If all are equal in this quality then it should be the one who has offered maximum sacrifices for the sake of Islam and upheld its cause through all the vicissitudes of life. If all are equal in this quality too, then the one most senior in age may be given in honour of leading the Prayer.

Regulations Concerning the Functions of the Imam

1. A woman is not allowed to lead males in Prayer. Hadrat Jabir has reported the holy Prophet as saying: "No woman is permitted to lead a male in Prayer." (Ibn Majah

2. The female Imam should stand in the row and not alone in front, whether she has one female follower with her or more.

3. The Imam should have regard for his followers and should not recite long passages or prolong the ruku or sajdah unduly, for the holy Prophet has said, "When anyone of you happens to lead the Prayer, he should make it short and light, because among the followers there may be the sick, the weak or aged people. However, when you are offering the Prayer alone, you may prolong it as much as you like." (Bukhari, Muslim)

Hadrat Mu'az used to recite long Surahs in the Isha Prayer. When the holy Prophet came to know of it, he was annoyed, and said: "O Mu'az, do not put the people to trial!" - and then instructed him to recite short Surahs like Al-A'ala (87), Ash-Shams (92), Al-Lail (92) and Wad-Duha (93) (Bukhari, Muslim)

Concerning his own practice, the holy Prophet once remarked: "When I stand up for Prayer, I sometimes intend to prolong it, but then I hear some child crying and I shorten the Prayer, because I know that the child's crying would upset the mother (who might be offering her Prayer behind me." (Bukhari)

4. It is permissible to appoint one or more persons (called Mukabbirs) among the followers, who should repeat the Imam's takbir, etc., in a louder voice so as to convey it to the followers at the rear so that they may perform their rukus and sajdahs and other articles of Prayer correctly and properly behind the Imam.

5. It is highly undesirable to appoint a sinner, or a wicked person, as Imam. If however a better person is not available, then such a person may be allowed to act as Imam.

6. It is permissible to offer prayers under the leadership of an Imam belonging to another school of juristic thought. If the Imam has adhered to his own particular fiqh, the Prayer of the followers will be valid regardless of the different schools to which they may belong.

7. If a person is offering the fard rak'ahs of the Maghrib, Isha or Fajr Prayer alone, and is joined by another person as a follower, he must start starting reciting the Qur'an aloud as an Imam. If he has already recited al Fatiha and an additional passage, he must repeat them aloud as prescribed for these prayers. In case he has to repeat al Fatiha, he will have to perform sajdah sahv in the final sitting.

8. It is undesirable to appoint a person as an Imam who suffers from a repulsive or serious disease like leprosy etc.

9. To appoint a handsome young man whose beard has not yet grown as Imam, is undesirable.

10. A man who is disliked or hated by the people should not act as the Imam. The followers' willingness and approval in this regard is necessary.

11. If a Prayer is to be offered in the house of a person, the person himself deserves to be the Imam. However, if he allows another person to act as Imam, there is no harm. Similarly the appointed Imam of the mosque has a greater right to act as Imam in the mosque unless he himself allows another person to lead the Prayer on that particular occasion.

12. If the Prayer of the Imam becomes void for some reason, the Prayer of the whole congregation will automatically become void, whether it happens during the progress of the Prayer, or comes to light after the Prayer is over. In any case the Imam is duty bound to inform the followers to repeat their Prayer.

13. It is the responsibility of the Imam to see that the rows are made straight and balanced and the followers are standing close to one another without any gaps between them.

14. A male Imam may lead women in Prayer provided there is at least one other male present in the congregation, or a mahram female, like mother, wife, sister etc.

15. It is not permissible for the followers to offer a Prayer by playing a tape or a recording containing the voice of the Imam, nor is it permissible to follow an Imam who is leading prayers over the radio at a distant place.

Saudi woman running brothel jailed

By SULEIMAN AL-DIYABI

TAIF: The preliminary Court in Taif has sentenced a Saudi woman to four years in prison for running a sex racket.

A Saudi man who acted as her accomplice was imprisoned to 18 months while six young women have been given one-month custodial sentences each.

The 50-year-old madam was accused of luring the young women, aged between 18 and 25, into the brothel to have sex with customers. The Saudi man arranged transport for the women to the customers after fixing the prices. Taif police’s criminal investigation unit arrested the woman and members of her racket after receiving a tip off.

The woman amassed a huge amount of wealth through the brothel. She was clever enough to lure young beautiful women who hailed from poor families and arranged accommodation for them after offering a substantial amount of money.

She managed to attract a large number of women to her residence after turning it into a brothel, located in the Samooda region north of Taif.

Following a directive from the Makkah Governorate, the criminal investigation squad busted the prostitution racket after monitoring the area for several days.

Members of the Commission for Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice (Haia) also took part in the raid.

The man, a private taxi driver, confessed to his association with the madam and to transporting young women to destinations as far as 100 km away from the area

Pak Vs NZ Series 2010- 2011

 “Hands Up”

Pakistan cricket team will be here soon. Last time when there were here President of that time Jamshaid ul hussen did his best to find out, when team is coming and Sohni Dharti circulated text message of their arrival, about 30 to 35 peoples came to welcome them, Jamshaid ul Hussan entertained them with tea and coffee and offer them a dinner. Due to very short time stay in Auckland team had to fly to Wallington for scandal mach

This year it seems Pakistan Association of NZ is not in mod to do anything, welcome them or a dinner with community, shyness of this may be because of short of funds.

There are few other organization Pakbaz and The Chamber may be interested if PANZ is “Hands Up”

Trade Minister Hon Tim Groser's Talk

Pakistan – New Zealand Chamber of Businesses and Professionals

7 December 2010

Press Release

The Chamber is very pleased to announce that Hon Tim Groser, Minister of Trade, Minister of Conservation, Associate Minister of Foreign Affairs, Associate Minister for Climate Change Issues (International Negotiations) New Zealand delivered a talk on Trade Opportunities between New Zealand and Pakistan on Saturday 27 November 2010 at Eden Park, Auckland.

The event was attended by Hon Syed Ibne Abbas, High Commissioner for Pakistan; Hon Dr. Ashraf Choudhary MP Labour and several key business persons and professionals from New Zealand and Pakistan communities of New Zealand.

The programme began by everyone observing one minute silence in the memory of 29 killed as a result of Pike River Mining Tragedy.

Trade Minister Hon Tim Groser mentioned that New Zealand had expanded its trade and commerce ties from a single country [when New Zealand had 90% of its trade with UK 40 years ago] to the most parts of the world during the last 40 years’ time! The Minister elaborated that today’s trading ties of New Zealand with the other countries were seeded 15-20 years ago; hence, as the Minister added, the development in trading ties between New Zealand and Pakistan shall be a steady and a long term process. The Minister however acknowledged that development in the trading ties between New Zealand and Pakistan was very important for New Zealand. The Minister also acknowledged that in today’s dynamic and ever-changing world, things could advance sooner than anticipated. The Minister in his talk provided an overview of New Zealand’s trading strategic focus, such as recent developments in trade and commerce between New Zealand and Russia.

Hon Dr Asharf Choudhary complimented the Minister for his good work and acknowledged that the Minister continued to build upon some of the key strategies and policies of the past [Labour] government.

Hon Syed Ibne Abbas, High Commissioner for Pakistan admired the Minister for signing a number of Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) with the other countries. In his word of thanks, the High Commissioner thanked the Minister for delivering the talk and spending his value able time with the Chamber. The High Commissioner also thanked Hon Dr Ashraf Choudhary for his continuing contribution towards the New Zealand Ethnic communities. The High Commissioner acknowledged and thanked Pakistan – New Zealand Chamber of Businesses and Professionals for organizing the event. Finally, the High Commissioner thanked all the participants for attending and supporting the programme.

The net-working took place after the talk. The Minister was introduced to the invitees who exchanged their views with the Minister.

MIDDLE NZ NEEDS SOMEONE ON THEIR SIDE. Labour

Middle-income earners are really feeling the squeeze right now as prices continue to rise much faster than wages. New statistics show that average household incomes over the last year have actually fallen, leaving New Zealand families $30 a week worse off.
They’re working harder but they’re unable to get ahead and they’re worried about the future for themselves and their children. The National-led government has no vision and no plan. They’re sitting on the sidelines doing nothing while incomes fall and prices rise and unemployment stays high.
Labour will actively manage the economy in a more aggressive, hands-on way to help families get ahead and to grow the economy. Labour’s plan involves reforming the Reserve Bank to help exporters, paying off net debt faster, increasing our savings, promoting innovation through R&D and developing high value exports. We won’t simply tax and spend.
Our priority will be to create jobs, keep the cost of living down and give our children the best start in life. National’s simply sitting back, trying to ride out the tough times. It’s come up with nothing but gimmicks like job summits and cycle-ways. Labour’s active management will follow the example of other small but smart and successful countries like Denmark, Finland and Singapore.
And the benefits of economic growth will be shared by all New Zealanders, not just the privileged few that National has looked after.

Maoists demand mosque at Babri site

Maoists demand mosque at Babri site

Debabrata Mohanty Posted online: Mon Dec 06 2010, 09:49 hrs
Bhubaneswar : The CPI (Maoist) has given a call to observe Monday, December 6 — when the Babri Masjid was demolished in Ayodhya 18 years ago — as black day. The outfit has demanded that the mosque should be rebuilt at the same site and those who had demolished it must be punished severely.
In a signed press release issued by the Central Committee of CPI (Maoist), spokesperson Abhay said the Maoists had all along maintained that the land on which the Babri Masjid stood belonged to Muslims and it should be given back to them.
The outfit said “Hindu fundamentalists made the 500-year-old Babri Masjid a controversial site by claiming it as the birth place of Lord Ram and on that pretext many a time instigated communal disturbances in the country killing thousands of Muslims”.
“Demolition of Babri Masjid was the biggest attack by Hindu fascists in the history of our country. The likes of L K Advani, Ashok Singhal, Murli Manohar Joshi, Praveen Togadia, Uma Bharati, Sadhvi Ritambara, who were directly involved in it, were not punished by any court even till today,” the statement sent.
“On 30th September, giving its verdict on the ownership rights of the controversial site, pending for 61 years, the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court with its Brahmanical Hindu religious ideology, did injustice to Muslims. Without any historical evidence and archaeological proof, it stated the controversial place to be the birth place of Lord Rama,” it said.
The spokesperson alleged that in recent past, evidence had surfaced, proving involvement of “saffron terrorist groups of the Sangh Parivar” in bomb blasts in Malegaon, Ajmer, Mecca Masjid and the Samjhauta Express.
The Central Committee said all democratic, secular, progressive and revolutionary forces, organisations and parties should conduct meetings and processions and wear black badges on Monday to protest Hindu communalism.

"Dreaded Old Age"

I have always dreaded old age. I cannot imagine
anything worse than being old. How awful it must
be to have nothing to do all day long but stare at
the walls or watch TV? So last week, when the
President suggested we all celebrate Senior Citizen
Week by cheering up a senior citizen, I decided to do
just that. I would call on my new neighbor, an elderly
retired gentleman, recently widowed, and who, I
presumed, had moved in with his married daughter
because he was too old to take care of himself. I baked
a batch of cookies, and, without bothering to call (some
old people cannot hear the phone), I went off to brighten
this old guy's day.

When I rang the doorbell this "old guy" came to the door
dressed in tennis shorts and a polo shirt, looking about
as ancient and decrepit as Donny Osmond. "I'm sorry I
can't invite you in," he said when I introduced myself, "but
I'm due at the Racquet Club at two. I'm playing in the
semifinals today."

"Oh that's all right," I said. "I baked you some cookies..."

"Great!" he interrupted, snatching the box. "Just what I
need for bridge club tomorrow! Thanks so much!"

I continued, "...and just thought we'd visit a while. But
that's okay! I'll just trot across the street and call on
Granny Grady."

"Don't bother," he said. "Gran's not home; I know. I just
called to remind her of our date to go dancing tonight.
She may be at the beauty shop. She mentioned at
breakfast (at which house?) that she had an appointment
for a tint job."

. .... So I went home and called my Mother's cousin (age
83); she was in the hospital ... ... working in the gift shop. .
.... I called my aunt (age 74); she was on vacation in China. .
I called my husband's uncle (age 79). I forgot; ...... he was
on his honeymoon. ....

.... I still dread old age, now more than ever. I just don't
think I'm up to it.

PRESS ANNOUNCEMENT

MICHAEL KIDD ASKS FOR CLARIFICATION OF PHIL TYWFORD’S POSITION
NOMINATIONS FOR TE ATATU

26/11/10

I was astounded at the Western Leader report of 25 November by Chris Carter that he would consider running as an independent against any Labour candidate other than Phil Tywford, which coincided with withdrawal by Greg Presland for allegedly for non related reasons.

I call upon Phil Tywford, as I am sure he is an honourable fellow, to publicly repudiate such blackmail, otherwise it throws the whole selection process into the spectre of backroom deals to avoid possible defeat at the hands of an expected strong National candidate to replace Henare.

Labour can stand on its own record in Opposition with a good local candidate -no matter who-ever National chooses-who can make a successful transition beyond the present situation.

I am prepared to devote most of my time between now and any general election to make sure Te Atatu stays with Labour.

The reason is that I am self employed and have the financial resources..

One third of apprehended 60,000 beggars are Saudis

In this file photo, women are seen begging at a street in Riyadh.

By MD RASOOLDEEN | ARAB NEWS

RIYADH: A third of the approximately 60,000 beggars rounded up over the past 12 months in Riyadh province were Saudis, the Riyadh police announced on Friday.

“Among those arrested, 33 percent were Saudis — mainly women — and the rest were expatriates from various countries,” according to an official.

The beggars included 59 percent men, 25 percent women and 16 percent children.

In a bid to control the menace among shoppers, motorists and pedestrians, the Riyadh police enforced a major crackdown on beggars since the beginning of the Islamic year.  The police found that a section of the expatriate beggars are not professionals.

Under a program launched by the government, the expatriates will be deported while the natives are sent for rehabilitation, which is programmed by the Ministry of Social Affairs.

In Jeddah, a shelter for child beggars run by the Al-Bir Welfare Society has deported over 6,000 children and released over 1,500 after obtaining residence permits for them since it was founded seven years ago.

According to shelter’s director Zarie Al-Hakami, this year alone 411 children were placed into their care. Out of this group 363 were deported. Eighteen were handed over to their families after they signed a pledge not to beg again. He added that between five and 10 children are brought to the center every day and said the center was currently looking after 30 children of different nationalities, including eight girls. Al-Hakami said the majority of children in the center are from Afghanistan, Nigeria, Yemen and Chad.

He said the center works in close cooperation with security forces, including the passport police.

“These departments bring the children to the center when their parents are in the detention center, waiting either to be deported or released once they rectify their residence situation,” he said.

The Al-Bir Welfare Society runs four orphanages in the city of Jeddah, housing a total of 300 children.  “The children are picked up at traffic lights and intersections,” the official said.

A survey conducted by UNICEF in 2007 found that up to 50 percent of child beggars in the Kingdom entered the country with their parents.

It is reported that Saudi authorities arrest 3,500 Yemeni children a month, smuggled into the country to work or beg.

Begging increases in the Kingdom during the Haj pilgrimage season and during the holy month of Ramadan when it is customary to give charity.

Open request to the Pakistan High Commissioner

Surah Al Jathiyah Verse 14 XLV:XIV

Tell those who believed to forgive those who do not expect the days of Allah. He will fully pay everyone for whatever they have earned.Qur'an- (45:14)

As an ex-pat Pakistani, I request you to pass on my deepest concerns about the sentencing of Asiya Bibi in Pakistan.

President Asif Ali Zardari must pardon and release her and this controversial blasphemy law must be repealed, a law that is widely used as a tool for ostracizing religious minorities or for settling personal scores.

He must do the right thing, how would he feel if one day a muslim woman was sentenced to die for speaking up for Hazrat Mohammad(pbuh), Allah or Islam, in a foreign land?

The world’s hottest chilli is the Bhut Jolokia also known as Bih Jolokia (ghost Chilli) originating in Assam in North East India. It is the records holder with an official Scoville heat rating (SHU) of 1,001,304 SHU twice that of the previous record holder, the Red Savina.

A SHU stands for Scoville Heat Unit and is the amount of water needed before the chilli heat is undetectable. One drop of the Bhut Jolokia extract needs a million drops of water.

Families of Karachi bomb victims to sue Jacques Chirac for manslaughter

French naval engineers died in bombing alleged to be retaliation for decision to stop bribe payments

Nicolas Sarkozy and Jacques Chirac: both men have been named by families of those killed in the 2002 Karachi bombings. They want both men to testify before an investigating magistrate. Photograph: Gangne-Guyot-Guez/AFP/Getty Images The families of French engineers killed in a Pakistan bomb attack in 2002 are to sue Jacques Chirac, the former president, for manslaughter. The bombing is known as the "Karachi Affair". The search to uncover the truth about it has become the most potentially damaging political corruption inquiry in recent French history. Allegations of illegal kickbacks on French arms sales to Pakistan threaten to engulf Nicolas Sarkozy, and now a civil suit will be launched to establish whether Chirac committed manslaughter and endangered French lives.
A total of 15 people, including 11 French naval engineers, were killed in the suicide bombing in Karachi in 2002. A French anti-terrorist judge believes the bombing was most likely a retaliation because France stopped paying bribes to Pakistan over an arms sale in 1994. Another judge is investigating whether the bribes included illegal kickbacks used to fund the political activities of Edouard Balladur, Sarkozy's close ally and mentor. As budget minister in 1994, Sarkozy would have authorised the arms sales and commissions to Pakistan. He was also director and spokesman for Balladur's failed presidential campaign in 1995.
When Chirac won the presidential race that year, he set about stopping the suspected cash flow to Balladur. He ended the bribe payments to Pakistan. But new testimony from arms executives has revealed for the first time that Paris was aware of a "risk" to French personnel on the ground if the payments were stopped.
Olivier Morice, the lawyer for the families', said they would launch a civil manslaughter suit next week against Chirac, and Dominique de Villepin, who was prime minister under Chirac from May 2005-7, as well as other arms executives.
Chirac and De Villepin have not publicly commented on the Karachi affair. Sarkozy has dismissed the allegations as a "fairy tale" and Balladur has denied involvement. The families want all four men to testify to investigating judges.

A little helping hand from the Pakistani-Kiwis to Canterbury Earthquake victims

Hi

The Pakistani-Kiwi community shared the distress of Canterbury Earthquake Victims and showed solidarity with their country mates who have suffered great loss and distress in an earthquake of 7.1 magnitude on richter scale, struck the Canterbury region on 4th September early in the morning.

Wellington based Pakistani-Kiwi community, with the help of few from Napier, Auckland and Palmerstone North had put together Parcels of food and other items for the distribution to show the support of Pakistani-Kiwis to Canterbury Earthquake Victims, as well as to thank the Kiwi friends for their generous support to the current Pakistan Flood Victims and earlier 2005 Pakistan Earthquake Victims.

The parcels were prepared and delivered to The Salvation Army in Christchurch for distribution. The Parcels contained non-perishable food along with toiletries for daily use. Delivery of the Parcels by KiwiRail and Toll Tranzlink and distribution by Salvation Army is deeply appreciated.

Please see the attached pdf file covering all information about this mini project by Pakistani-kiwi community.

'Eid a Day of forgiveness

Each 'Eid is a Day of forgiveness.
When a Muslim assemble in the congregation of the Day, they all whole-heartedly pray for forgiveness and strength in faith. And Allah has assured those who approach Him with sincerity of His mercy and forgiveness. In that pure assembly and highly spiritual congregation any true Muslim would feel ashamed of himself before Allah to hold any enmity or ill feelings toward his brethren.

This Saturday, we need your help on election day.

This Saturday, we need your help on election day.

If you give us one day this year, please make it this Saturday.
We have spent the last two months working as hard as we can to win the Mana by-election for Labour.
If you can get from where you live to the Mana electorate, you can help us hold the seat for Labour, and send a big message about the National Government.
Here’s what you can do:
You can help us get voters to the polls.
You can help with scrutineering in the polling booth.
You can help phone voters to remind them its election day.
You can help support campaign staff.
If you can help - please come along.
Kris Faafoi is a great candidate, and he’ll be a strong MP for Mana.
Voters are telling us they appreciate how hard we’re working to earn their support, and focusing on the things that matter for them - jobs and the cost of living, housing, transport and health care. But we still have the most important part of the campaign ahead - we have to get our voters to the polls on Saturday.
National is hoping Labour people stay home on Saturday. If we can get our supporters to the polls we can win. But it will take everything we can do to make sure we mobilise our supporters.
Please ring around friends and family and organise to bring people from your local area.
If you can come - please let us know in advance by calling the campaign office on 0800 4 LABOUR (0800 4 522 687).
Kind regards,
Phil Goff
Leader of the Labour Party
PS - Not everyone can make it on the day - but if you can’t be there, there is one more thing you can do to help.
Please consider sending us a contribution. By-elections are expensive and cut deeply into out resources for next year’s general election campaign. Even if you’ve already donated, please make one more cash contribution to show your support. You can make a secure online donation here.

DOLLAR WOES CONTINUE: Goff

DOLLAR WOES CONTINUE
The strength of the kiwi dollar is punishing our exporters, particularly manufacturers. Last week the kiwi came close to hitting US80c and Reserve Bank Governor Alan Bollard says the high dollar might derail New Zealand’s “tepid” economic recovery.
Even the Prime Minister acknowledges the harm it is causing. Which makes it mystifying why he refuses to consider the many tools available that can moderate the dollar’s volatility.
Typically though, John Key let it be known this week that he rings Dr Bollard to talk about the dollar – giving the impression he is doing something, when he fully intends to do nothing and leave it to the market.
New Zealand is unusual internationally in having a single policy goal for the Reserve Bank. Australia, in contrast, is also required to aim for a stable currency, full employment, and the economic prosperity and welfare of the people of Australia. Labour is looking at introducing the same outcomes for our Reserve Bank.

Allama Iqbal Day today

The 133rd birthday anniversary of the Poet of the East, Doctor Allama Mohammed Iqbal would be observed today.

Allama Iqbal, a poet, great legislature of subcontinent and important personality of Pakistan movement who gave the awareness message of “ Lab pe aati hai dua’a ban ke tamanna meri. “ to the nation, was born on November 9, 1877 in Sialkot.

He was Sufi poet of the modern age. He aroused revolutionary spirit in the nation through his poetry. Sophism and Islamic touch are prominent of his poetry.

His poetry has been translated in Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, English and several other languages and he is considered a great philosopher all over the world.

As a great politician, his great achievement was to think of the ideology of Pakistan, which later became the base of independence of Pakistan.

Unfortunately, he could not see the independence of Pakistan and died on April 21, 1938.
