Mr.Ambassador grabs all for family

Must read article.  Compare what happened today- a Minister resigned over two bottles of wine to what officials from the Land of Pure do.

The News

Tuesday, February 23, 2010
By Usman Manzoor

ISLAMABAD: The new Pakistani ambassador to Syria, appointed by President Zardari, has summarily sacked the entire staff and faculty of the Pakistan International School in Damascus and appointed almost all his immediate family members for a collective monthly salary of $38,000 (Rs3.2 million).

The sacked teachers and staff members of the school run by the embassy, who were removed for no reasons and without any prior notice, have been compelled to go into litigation against the Pakistan Embassy, The News has learnt.

The Pakistan International School in Damascus is run by the embassy of Pakistan but within five months after the arrival of new ambassador, Aminullah Raisani, in September 2009, the management and faculty of the school was changed altogether without giving any reason and the s chool was stuffed with the relatives of the ambassador.

According to the list of newly inducted teachers Saeeda Yasmeen Raeesani has been appointed as Principal. She is sister of the ambassador and is drawing $6,500 per month as salary while the previous principal Syed Tauseef Bokhari was getting $2,500. Another sister, Ms Abbas, has been appointed as Urdu teacher for $3,500 per month.

Two daughters, Amna Aminullah Raeesani and Quratulein Aminullah Raeesani, have been appointed as teachers. These two are getting $3,000 per month as salary while the school was paying only $1,700 for the same job to previous teachers.

Mohammad Ishaque, brother-in-law of the ambassador, has been appointed as accountant for $3,500 per month while the same job was previously with one Imran for just $900 a month.

Attique-ur-Rehman and Syed Muhammad Ali, ambassador’s nephews, have been appointed as business teachers for $3,000 a month while the same job was done for $1,500 only before September 2009.

Nayla Atiq, granddaughter of ambassador’s sister, is working as Maths teacher for $3,000 a month while her predecessor was drawing $1,700 a month as salary. Ali Abdullah, the son-in-law of ambassador’s sister, and Muhammad Ahsan Shafique, ambassador’s cousin, have been appointed as teachers for $3,000 a month while their predecessors were drawing $1,500 a month.Another cousin of the ambassador, Rasheed Chattha, has been appointed as biology teacher for $3,500 a month while previously Ms Manal Sileman was doing the same job for $1,500 a month.

Ms Manal Sileman, one of the Syrian teachers of the Pakistani school who has been sent home without giving any notice and without any reason, while talking to The News from Damascus on phone said that it was strange that an ambassador instead of running the affairs of the embassy was keen in the business of the school.

She lamented that the ambassador has imported Chinese shoes a nd made it mandatory for every student to purchase those shoes at much higher rates. She said that the school was being ruined as the new incompetent teachers have been hired for more than double the salaries the previous faculty was getting.

Another teacher Saad al Hassan said that he has gone to the court with a heavy heart because he has served the school and Pakistan and now the court will issue an order against the Republic of Pakistan.

He said that he has respect for the Pakistani nation but because of a few people he has been compelled to go into litigation against the embassy and according to the Syrian laws the Pakistan Embassy in Damascus could be heavily penalised.

Saad said that the school was rated among the best in Damascus and the elite, including the foreign minister of Syria and deputy foreign minister, had started sending their kids to the Pakistan International School of Damascus but with the advent of new administration many have opted for other schools in the city.

He said that last year the school won eight gold medals in the Cambridge examination and the income of the school in 2006 was US$2,042,400 per annum and it rose to $4,774,000 per annum in 2009 with the number of students almost doubled i.e. from 600 to 1,100.

Ambassador Aminullah Raisani was too busy to talk to this correspondent. However his spokesman Zahid Ali who works as Counsellor in the embassy denied all these allegations. He said that the previous management was incompetent that was why it was sent packing while competent people have now been inducted in the school.

Zahid said that it was not true that the newly appointed teachers were drawing more salaries than the previous management. “We write to the Foreign Office of Pakistan about our tasks here,” Zahid replied when asked about some teachers going into litigation against the embassy.

A Kick In The Teeth

An Email from Phil Goff

>> A wasted opportunity and a kick in the teeth

Recently, John Key gave his opening address to Parliament.

Rather than presenting a plan to increase wages and create jobs he instead signaled a GST rise to fund tax cuts for the top.

>> Key's broken promise on GST

Raising GST breaks one of Mr Key's personal election promises.

I'm writing to share our newest 20 second video with you.

It shows Mr Key making an election promise on the campaign trail on October 20th last year.

He promised "National is not going to be raising GST". He broke that promise but won't even own up to the fact that he has done. But video doesn't lie.

Report shows widespread discrimination in NZ 20.2.2010

Please report incidents of discrimination or harassment, don't be embarrassed or ashamed. If you feel uncomfortable ask someone to go along with you. Unless such incidents are reported change cannot happen.
When choosing community representatives or voting for Councillors or MPs ask them what they have done for you or your community so far and what do they plan to do in the future and what is their plan of action for that. Do not waste your precious vote. Someone in PANZ should collate all this information and a an annual report should be presented to the community and to The Race Relations Commissioner to tell us how these issues are being handled.

Attached report available on www.tvnz.co.nz
A race relations report shows there is still widespread discrimination and harassment in New Zealand.
The report by Race Relations Commissioner Joris de Bres Public says discrimination against ethnic groups, and particularly Asians, has increased in the past 12 months.
The commissioner used several surveys in compiling his report and says two-thirds of respondents nominated an ethnic group when asked who they thought was most discriminated against in New Zealand.
Examples of discrimination and harassment regularly heard by the Commission included discrimination in employment, verbal abuse (often shouted from people in cars), having water bombs and eggs thrown at them, abuse by neighbours, rubbish being tipped over the fence, damage to property and cars, bullying in schools, and harassment in the workplace.
"This type of behaviour is not carried out by the majority of New Zealanders, but it is common and everyone needs to help put a stop to it," says de Bres.
He has made five recommendations for addressing the situation:
* Encouraging people to share stories of discrimination, harassment and abuse (in the workplace, education sector, health sector and communities).
* Countering the relatively high incidence of discrimination against Asian New Zealanders, through government, businesses, school and community action.
* Ensuring the safety of international students, including effective reporting mechanisms, through the education sector, police and local government action.
* Police collection of data on racially motivated crime, as recommended by the United Nations Periodic Review of New Zealand and the UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.
* Formally welcoming and acknowledging international students and temporary migrant workers in communities.

In his last "Move Update," Peter said we'd give you a heads-up about the next step in installing the backup power supply at our new datacenter. Well, here it is: that next step is going to happen this Friday, Feb. 19th, starting at around 10:00 AM Eastern U.S. time.

What does this mean?

It means we have to take the site offline for about an hour or two. While we essentially finished up the datacenter move a few weeks ago, and have been working hard to ensure high availability since then, we'd been waiting for this one final part. It is the last planned outage of the move.

We know this has been a frustrating process at times, and it's tough to express just how much we appreciate everyone who's been so supportive and understanding. We can't wait to get past this last step so you can experience the improved performance we've all been waiting for.

We'll display a site-wide message shortly before the site comes down on Friday, just to remind you.

Basant Or Valentines Day

Happy Valentines Day Or Basant

LAHORE: The District Flying Association announced on Sunday to celebrate ‘basant’ in Lahore from Feb 20 to 21.

On the other hand, Punjab’s Law Minister Rana Sanaullah said the Punjab Assembly has not given any permission in this connection.

The DFA said that basant would be celebrated in line with the safety measures chalked out by the government.

DFA General Secretary Sheikh Salim told media that kites would be made available from Feb 5 in the city.

Hundreds of people are associated with the business of kite flying and it is a good step that Punjab Assembly has given a permission for basant.

Basant is celebrated at a time when the winter months are nearing to an end and spring is just around the corner. There is a famous Punjabi phrase for this event "Basant- pala aurant", which means that with the advent of Basant the cold weather flies away.

As the story goes many years ago some Hindus massacred a large group of Muslims and thereafter celebrated on their dead bodies. However there is no actual recorded incident of this sort in history and hence this myth could never be proved or verified.

Coinciding with mating season, symbolically Basant is believed to symbolize heightened emotions sending a message of love to all man and animal alike. An interesting compliment to this theory is the celebration of the famous western occasion Valentines Day celebrated February 14th near the same dates of that of the local Basant.

The celebrations kick off with people especially the women wearing bright yellow clothes, while families and friends gather together at rooftop feasts to mark the occasion

Message from Mr. Asif Ali Zardari

President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan

(On the occasion of Kashmir Solidarity Day 5th February, 2010)

We observe the Kashmir Solidarity Day each year on 5th February to reiterate our political, moral and diplomatic support for the just and legitimate struggle of our Kashmiri brothers and sisters for the realization of their right to self determination. This right is enshrined in the UN Charter and relevant UN Resolutions.

Kashmir Solidarity Day is also an occasion to pay tributes to the brave people of Jammu and Kashmir for their heroic sacrifices and for their steadfast resolve to realize their just aspirations.

I wish to reassure my Kashmiri brethren that Pakistan remains firmly committed to finding a just and peaceful solution of the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir and for full respect for their fundamental rights.

Pakistan would persist in its efforts for seeking a peaceful resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute. We are of the firm belief that the Kashmiris should be associated with the Dialogue process. Ultimately, Kashmiris would be the final arbiters of their destiny.

I reiterate to our Kashmiri brothers and sisters our pledge that they have our full moral, diplomatic and political support. We shall stand always with them in their just struggle.

Prime Minister

Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani’s

Message on the

occasion of Kashmir Solidarity Day 5th February, 2010

********

The people of Pakistan observe the Kashmir Solidarity Day on 5th February every year to demonstrate their unequivocal support for the valiant struggle of the people of Jammu and Kashmir to achieve their legitimate right to self determination in accordance with the UN Resolutions. It is a reaffirmation of our firm resolve to stand by our Kashmiri brethren in their endeavour to decide their own fate.

The Kashmiri struggle spans over more than six decades. Generations of Kashmiris have grown up in Indian Occupied Kashmir in the shadow of oppression and violence perpetrated by the Indian occupation forces. They have lost their homes, friends and families. Yet they have not lost hope and have remained steadfast in their quest for their inalienable right of self determination.

Today, as we observe the Kashmir Solidarity Day, our hearts go out to the families of more than ninety thousand Kashmiris who have scarified their lives in upholding the ideals of freedom and liberty. We pay tribute to the sacrifices made by the Kashmiri people. The sacrifices will not go in vain.

Pakistan assures the Kashmiri people of its firm resolve to work steadfastly for the realization of their fundamental rights.

It is our hope and expectation that the International community would also play its role in bringing an end to repression, violence and human rights violations of the Kashmiri people.

I reassure our Kashmiri brothers and sisters of Pakistan’s continued and unflinching moral, diplomatic and political support for their just cause.
