Kashmir Solidarity Day Celebrated at Wellington


A Kashmir Day was organized at Wellington on 10 March, 2012, to express solidarity with the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

On the occasion, a Declamation contest was held to highlight the Kashmiris legitimate struggle for right to self determination. Youth of the community participated in the declamation contest. To recognise their participation, speakers were presented with trophies. Prominent community members also spoke on the occasion.


The High Commissioner in his brief remarks dilated upon the genesis of the Kashmir dispute. He paid rich tributes to the valiant Kashmiris for their sacrifices. He stated that Pakistan shall never relent in its moral, political and
diplomatic support to the people of Kashmir. The High Commissioner reiterated Pakistan’s commitment towards the peaceful settlement of the Kashmir dispute in accordance to the United Nation Security Council (UNSC) Resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.


Professor Arthur Buehler, Associate Professor of the Victoria University, was the guest speaker on the occasion. He provided summation of the proceedings.

An Art exhibition by the local Pakistani artists was also organized to showcase the local artists talent. Exhibits were greatly appreciated by the participants. Pakistani national songs and documentary films depicting the rich cultural heritage of Pakistan were also played on the occasion.


Some 150 people representing cross section of the local community attended the event, who were served a Pakistani dinner.
