Multi-ethnic Food and Cultural Festival was held in Mount Albert Hall on May1, 2004. Thanks God Pakistan Association of New Zealand excelled in all three sections of the programme and was greatly appreciated by each and every participant. These sentiments were specially expressed from the stage number of times. Shanti Nawas Charitable trust had organized this event and was also attended by Prime Minister Helen Clark, Ethnic Minister Chris Carter, MP Ashraf Chaudhry and other notables. Pakistan Association of New Zealand had put two display centers one right at the entrance and other at the second specified place. At display 1 a big TV continued showing selected Pakistan Music all the day providing entertainment and presented a good image of Pakistan for every one entering the hall. The Main Display was a treat to watch and stood exceptionally brilliant as compared to other exhibition stalls put by various organizations. It continued attracting people whole the day and remained center of attraction until the end. We were honored and named as the best Display Stall by Shanti Nawas Management. This stall was a colorful combination of information and culture. Variety of posters, handicrafts, dresses, Paintings, Music CDs along with other suck like stuff presented a true picture of Pakistan. Prime Minister Helen Clark and MP Ashraf Chaudhry visited the stall separately and appreciated the efforts of Pakistan Association of New Zealand. At a separate place and close to the main stage, a bright looking Pakistan Food Stall offered traditional food to the programme attendants with yummy dishes like Nihari, Haleem, Chapli Kebab, Shami Kebab, Chicken Biryani and Zarda (Sweet Rice). This food stall also remained one of the most attractive ones and by the end was short of supply. Chicken Biryani cooked by skillful and master hands of Nawazish Ali was pick of the dishes. All other dishes were prepared by Women Council including Mrs. Kamal Shamsi, Mrs. Zahida Fiaz, Mrs. Salman Sheikh, Mrs. Irfan and others.  In Cultural programme PANZ new sensation S A Mirza almost hypnotized the audience with his dazzling dance performance on Punjabi Songs of Ibrar-ul-Haq. Such was his mastery that whole the hall danced with him and he was called to the stage three times despite the fact that he had competitors from India, Japan, Spain and other places. He was declared as the best performer by the public and programme ended with his third performance that was joined by young and old Pakistani and Indian participants who gathered on the stage in dance ecstasy. Pakistan Association of New Zealand appreciates the talent of this young man and hopes him to be a bright performing asset in coming programmes. PANZ is proud of the fact that it has introduced a whole lot of new talent since its starting tenure and continues to believe that Pak community has home-grown talent that only needs to be polished and encouraged.   Pakistan Association is thankful to all those who worked for us during this programme in form of volunteers and performers. The credit of taking Pakistan to the multi-ethnic forum and making us prominent truly goes to them. We are specially thankful to Women Council that gave a big helping hand despite the short notice and stood by us all the time.
