Dear fellow Pakistani,
Wellingtonians are aware that after the devastating earthquake of Christchurch, Wellington was struck twice by fairly large tremors during the last week i.e. 4.7 and 4.5 respectively, on Richter scale.
2. This situation has necessitated that all the community members should take some precautionary measures as advised by the Ministry of Civil Defence, Wellington Region Emergency Management Group, for the safety and security of their families and loved ones.
3. Following additional measures may also please be considered:
- Each family may inform of their contacts, telephones (landline and cell) email and residential addresses to the High Commission; and
- Every family may please create a network with their friends, neighbours or office colleagues whom in case of any emergency, they may check on each others welfare.
4. These measures are essential because in an unfortunate situation, the loved ones of expatriate community in Pakistan expects the High Commission to inform them about the welfare of their family members, if they can not reach them directly. In absence, of the requisite details, the High Commission is unable to provide the assistance. Recently, after the Christchurch earthquake, we were asked to provide information about a person who was untraceable.. We were able to find him with the help of local authorities and luckily he is fine.
5.. After the Christchurch earthquake, I personally called every Pakistani there, whose telephone contact is available in the High Commission to enquire about their welfare. In cases, where telephone numbers were not available, we tried to send emails, requesting every member of the community to inform us about their welfare.
6. I would appreciate that all the recipients of this email should share my message amongst other members who are not on our mailing list, so that we could compile contact details database of all community members.

Ambassador Sb, I must commend you for reaching out to the community. It would be great if the contact details of the official compiling the database of ex-pat Pakistanis is mentioned here so that the community can forward their details to them
I would also like to mention how friendly and efficient the staff is at the High Commission starting from Rafiq Sahib at reception to Qadir Sb in the Consular section and Ms.Asima Rabbani in Chancery.
