Saudi drug enforcement authorities at Batha have foiled an attempt to smuggle 18,000 bottles of liquor that were hidden inside a truck carrying cooking oil.
Dhaifallah Al-Otaibi, director of customs at the Batha entry point, said: “We have seized the liquor bottles and handed over the truck’s driver to security agents for further investigation.”
He commended the customs officers for their vigilance in preventing drugs, liquor bottles and other banned and harmful products from entering the Kingdom.
Drug and liquor trafficking is one of the main problems facing security officers at the Kingdom’s entry points.
Saudi security forces have foiled attempts to smuggle drugs worth more than SR 1.65 billion into the Kingdom during the first three months of this year and arrested 503 drug smugglers, the Interior Ministry said.
Four Saudis convicted of drug trafficking, murder and illegal possession of firearms were beheaded in Jeddah recently, while three of their accomplices were sentenced to 15 years in prison and publicly flogged, the ministry added.
