City's Elections

As city counsel elections are just a couples of weeks away , labour party’s panel of can candidates with the name of “Waitakere people” are in arena , here is the brief intro of those who will lead us in Waitakere City

Waitakere People principles:
We are a diverse group of people who represent the many ages and backgrounds of Waitakere Citizens. We are seeking your support for the forthcoming Local Body elections. The principles that we stand under are as follows:

General
(a) To create an economic, social and environmentally sustainable Waitakere City that is community orientated and that is open, democratic and fair.

Environmental
(b) To support and promote the concept of the Ecocity, namely the broad principles of economically, socially and environmentally sustainable management for the good of the people.

(c) To achieve sustainable management of all of the Resources of Waitakere City and of the wider region.

(d) To protect the environment of Waitakere City with emphasis on the conservation of the Waitakere Ranges, foothills and the Manukau and Waitemata foreshore.

Democratic
(e) To support and promote excellence in local and regional government in Waitakere City.

(f) To select representative capable candidates who support and can achieve the goals of the association and to support, promote and encourage these people in local body and regional elections.

(g) To respect the opinions and judgment of elected representatives and to acknowledge that decisions made in the course of fulfilling public obligations require public consultation and debate and consideration of all relevant matters.

(h) To involve the inhabitants of Waitakere City in the decision making processes of Council and other public bodies by the use ofmodern communications methods.
(i) To support the retention of community boards and to acknowledge their importance.

Economic
(j) To promote wise, prudent and responsible stewardship of all of the resources of Waitakere City Council.

(k) To seek to maintain Waitakere City Council rates and user-charges as low as possible taking into account the long term financial strategy of the council.

(l) To ensure that all publicly owned assets are retained in public ownership and control.

(m) To support innovation and to work to improve the Waitakere City’s economy.

(n) To simplify Council processes so that the expense of running the city is reduced and so that it is easier for Citizens to deal with and understand Council.

Community
(o) To improve the welfare and well-being of all of the citizens of Waitakere City.

(p) To work to understand all ethnic groups and to ensure their input into the decision making process.

(q) To support and improve the diversity of networks that exist in the Waitakere area.
