CONDEMN ISRAELS ATTACK ON TURKISH, GAZA-BOUND, AID SHIPS
Date:
Saturday, June 5, 2010
Time:
1:00pm - 2:00pm
Location:
Aotea Square- March down Queen St to US Consulate on Customs St
Please join this march. PANZ should organize a Pakistani contingent to join, but please make sure women also participate. Its not a good look for the community if only men attend.
Also, its sad that we haven't heard any statement from the only muslim list MP in Parliament. After all its not just about muslims there is our country woman from NZ who has also been detained with many others from across the world.
Keep up to date on this march on Facebook. Hope to see you all there, with flags and green arm bands.
Date: Saturday, 05 June 2010 Time: 13:00 - 14:00 Location: Aotea Square Israels vicious attack on Turksih ship aid to Gaza leaves 19 confirmed dead with the death toll estimated to grow. How long will Israels occupation of Palestine and blatant disregard for human life continue to go on?
In cities all over the world, people are mobilising in solidarity with those massacred by the State of Israel on the Freedom Flotilla to Gaza. In Auckland, groups such as Students for Justice in Palestine, Global Peace and Justice Auckland, Unite on Campus and Socialist Aotearoa will be going hard over the next few days- postering, leafletting and signing people up to the Palestinian solidarity movement on stalls all over the city- outside mosques, on campus, on the main streets and in the workplaces.
We need a huge march on Saturday. This is one massacre too many. Enough, Israel, enough. You have absolutely no shame.
Emergency meetings to organise-
6pm Tuesday 1st of June- International Affiars Committee meeting at the International Affairs office under shadows
7pm Tuesday 1st June at Unite Union, 6a Western Springs Road.
Please send out a text, Zubair Bhai. There is no contact info, all welcome. I would suggest you to become the contact person and organize/lead it for the community.
It is being organised by the Students for Justice at the uni. We just have to show support and solidarity with the activists and the Palestinians.
1 June 2010 Media Statement Government must demand answers from Israel
Labour leader Phil Goff today condemned the action taken by Israeli forces against an aid flotilla bound for Gaza and the resulting loss of life. “I support moves that are already underway for a full investigation to ensure those responsible are held to account for their disproportionate use of force,” Phil Goff said. “The blockade being imposed by Israel is having unacceptable humanitarian effects.
“I agree with the United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki Moon who has said the blockade creates unacceptable suffering, hurts forces of moderation and empowers extremists. “Israel’s Ambassador to New Zealand must be asked to account for the enforcement of the blockade into Gaza and the disproportionate use of force against those in the aid flotilla. “A resolution to the conflict in the Middle East will not come about unless there is a readiness to compromise on Israel’s part. “The international community acknowledges Israel needs secure and stable borders, but Palestinians also deserve a better standard of life, socially and economically, for themselves their children and future generations. “The Government needs to take a strong stance against Israel’s disproportionate use of force in this incident.”
Asalam O Alaykum Please find attached media statement from Hon Phil Goff on Gaza . Regards
Good to see some community members showing solidarity with the freedom flotilla- you can see yourselves on "You Tube." Kudos to the young children who came along from the community, you highlighted the plight of the suffering starving children of Gaza by your presence in the march.
No MP except Keith Locke from the Green Party supported the march. He walked with the protesters and raised awareness about the atrocities. He was there for almost three hours, the same cannot be said for the one muslim list MP who everyone expected to be there but who was conspicuous by his absence.
