Students Council

A special meeting of Students Council was held in PANZ office on March 11. The meeting was attended by all the members of Students Council that primarily constitutes the students of Auckland University of Technology, Manakau Institute of Technology and UNITEC. The meeting was presided over by PANZ acting president who briefed the members regarding the establishment of Students Council as a sub-committee of PANZ. He also referred to the PANZ constitution clause 5j as the source of forming the sub-committees. He also put before the relevant regulations approved by PANZ General Committee that explain the nature and motives of all such sub-committees. The members discussed in detail the structure and functioning of the Students Council and expressed satisfaction at the drafted regulations for the sub-committees.

The meeting decided the following in principal

An effort will be made wherever possible to form Pakistan Student Bodies in different institutions so that an organized and disciplined group of Pak Students should emerge to take care of their national identity and multicultural challenges in education institutions. On experimental basis Mr. Haroon Ahmed (Auckland University of Technology) will try to form a Pak Students Forum in the same institution. If formed successfully, the leaders of such student bodies will be automatic members of Student Council formed under PANZ.

The meeting also discussed the possibility of holding a small scale programme in Manakau Institute of Technology where the strength of Pakistani students have increased significantly over the past few months. Pakistani Students of the same institution will decide the volume and nature of such programmes after mutual consultation with other fellow Pak students and Institute management. The proposal will then be forwarded to PANZ for final approval.

The meeting also decided to initiate data base collection of Pakistani students studying in various institutions of Auckland by using different sources. This will help PANZ in ascertaining the number of Pak students and their subsequent needs including their settlement in New Zealand.

The Student Council vowed to participate in 23rd March Car Rally with full vigor. The Council members also suggested different measures to make the rally colorful and entertaining.

The meeting concluded its sessions after completion of all the agenda items.
