FYI-alarming news about OEA

Thought this might be of interest. Apologises for posting this late as I was away. Strange that we haven't heard about this from any ethnic MPs or spokespersons.

It has very recently been brought to our attention that the Office of
Ethnic Affairs is undergoing a restructure as part of the Department of
Internal Affairs. In the big picture this is not good news. The proposed
restructure will DEMOTE the importance and potential effectiveness of our
respective communities. The plan is to turn the OEA into a Branch.
Obviously this is a backward step.

For further information regarding the review please visit:

Of major concern is that the deadline for submissions is Monday 4 October
at 5pm.

Please CC your feedback to the Minister of Ethnic and the Chief Executive
of Department of Internal Affairs.

Tomorrow we will be circulating a fuller response, you and your community
may consider supporting. Unfortunately time is not on our side so please
help get the word out. This restructuring appears, by design or not, to be
kept under the radar. It is very concerning that the communities the
Office of Ethnic Affairs works with have not been given the opportunity to
respond appropriately.  Apparently because it is not a Ministry it is not
necessary.

We need to keep the big picture in mind as we go forward.

What are your thoughts?

Best regards
Joan Buchanan
