FW: Zubair, Labour will fight asset sales all the way

Today the Government brings its asset sales legislation back into
the House following a rushed and disrespectful Select Committee
process.

Only nine of those people who gave submissions at the committee
were in favour of National's plan while 1421 were against. We
know that New Zealanders across the country are overwhelmingly
opposed to the sale of our state-owned assets. But National is
not listening.

The Government's only ideas are to cut frontline services and
sell our assets. This won't help grow our economy or secure our
long-term prosperity.

Labour will do everything we can to stop this legislation because
it sells out New Zealand.

We'll be putting up a number of significant amendments that will
require sensible, informed debate as well as making hundreds of
technical changes. That will delay the progress of the
legislation. We make no apology for that.

As our MPs fight this short-sighted and damaging legislation in
the House in the coming days,  please join our campaign to force
a citizens initiated referendum on the issue
[http://issues.co.nz/notyourstosell]. Over 80,000 Kiwis have
signed to date. With your help we can force National to let
Kiwis have their say on an issue that affects us all now as well
as future generations to come.

This new law will result in increased power prices at a time when
Kiwis can least afford it. We will lose of hundreds of millions
of dollars in dividends which currently flow back into our
communities. It will also see our assets ending up owned by
foreign and corporate investors. That can only leave us worse
off as a country.

Selling our assets is not in New Zealand's best interests. Please
help us fight it.
