Queen’s Service Medal to Syed Mujeeb (New Zealand Journalist)
One of the most respectable personalities in the Muslim community with a vast knowledge of Islam and has a high command in Urdu language.
Governor General Lt Gen Sir Jerry Mateparae announced today The Queen’s Service Medal award to Syed Mujeeb in recognition of his services to the Muslim community on behalf of The Queen Elizabeth Birthday and Diamond Jubilee Honours 2012.
Governor –General congratulated to Mr. Syed Mujeeb and also said that the Government House will contact him with regard to arrangements for his investiture ceremony in due course.

Mr Syed Mujeeb of New Zealand has been graced by one of the highest civilian award conferred by the Queen of England. This award is known as Queen Service Medal and is being conferred to select individuals from the Common Wealth Nations for outstanding services to the community in particular and to the public in general. It is a matter of pride for the Muslims in New Zealand as for the first time in the history of this nation that this award is being conferred to an individual of the community.
Mr Syed Mujeeb has served the community in many forms. Most notable contribution has come from his dedicated services as a voluntary correspondent for the Urdu Newspaper called ‘The Daily Siasat’ published as paper and electronic print from Hydrabad, India.
Syed Mujeeb has served the community in New Zealand in several forms. Firstly he served as the president of the Milad Committee of New Zealand and has organized the event of Milad at several places in the country to bring the awareness about the life and teachings of the Prophet Mohammad (PBUH). He was also an active presenter on Radio Tarana for the program “Aaj Jumah Hai” (Its Friday today) in which he spoke on several religious and social issues. Currently he is the Secretary General of the “Urdu Hindi Cultural Association of New Zealand” and was instrumental in organizing the first ever international poetic symposium in Auckland to promote the two languages of Indian Sub-Continent namely Urdu and Hindi. His services to the community have not been restricted only to the cultural events. He has been a vocal protestor during the controversial publication of Cartoons of the Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) in New Zealand.
He has been a main source in delivering news related to the events in New Zealand in Urdu language through a major Newspaper known as ‘the Daily Siasat’. This newspaper has large readership in India and Pakistan both and also its electronic web publication is read by vast amount of readers around the world.
On the eve of the Golden Jublee celeberation of Queens Birthday, Honourable Governor General of New Zealand has announced Mr Mujeeb’s nomination for this award. This has come as a greatest surprise for Mr Mujeeb who feels greatly humbled and honoured on his nomination for this award. The date for award ceremony has not been announced yet.
Rt Hon John Key, the Prime Minister of New Zealand has sent his congratulation's note on this occasion, acknowledging Mr Mujeeb’s outstanding contribution towards the services
to the Muslim Community.
