PAKISTANI CULTURE

PAKISTANI CULTURE

There is always a big confusion among people about pakistani culture. People  call a certain thing as our culture and other will oppose it. My this writting is an effort to ease down the confusion in the minds of  the people about our culture by having a look at our cultural nackground and  the  facts from our own Pakistani culture.

Pakistani cultural background goes back to Indus Valley Civilization ( Harrapa) 2800 BC-1800 BC. This region (Pakistan) in past have been invaded and occupied by many deffirent peoples like Greeks, White Huns, Arabs, Persian, and Urasian groups. Every group of these left some distinctive impressions of their culture on this region.. In addition to these influential cultures, Pakistan culture has a big influence of Hindu Culture as we lived with them for centuries or some of us directly converted from Hinduism to Islam. All these facts make pakistani culture a diversified and complex culture.

To understand Pakistan's culture, first we will have to understand what does culture mean? Then it will become very easy for us to know that what our culture is.

According to UNESCO ” culture should be regarded as the set of distinctive spiritual, material, intellectual and emotional features of society or a social group, and that it encompasses, in addition to art and literature, lifestyle, ways of living together, value systems, traditions and beliefs”.

This deffinition shows that culture constitutes language, customs, family inter- relationship, behavioural changes, economics, legal sanctions, technology, institutions, beliefs and values, tools, house structure, art, literature, music, colth, food, attitude and infect everything.

In the view of this explanation of culture if we look at our culture like our laws, our institutions ( from law enforcement agencies to judiciary to education) , our customs, our forms of entertainment (like films, stage, tv etc), parties (like birthdays, wedding anniversaries, new year celebrations, valantines day, basant etc.), banking system, fuedalism, beard shaving culture, unveiling (be pardagee) etc etc , we can easily come to the conclusion that the culture in Pakistan is not completely an islamic culture.

Here I will discuss just one point that wheter dances are the part of our culture or not.

Normally pakistanies like to wathch movies, TV shows, Stage shows, listining to music etc. And Girls dances are always the part of pakistani movies since pakistan came in to being. We have mediums like stage and TV where both boys and girls dances are presented, then we have private functions( weddings etc) where there dances are performed both by boys and girls on pakistani and indian songs.  Further more watching indian movie is a must in pakistani culture these days. Even our presidents like Zia and Musharraf wathced indian movies.

In the view of these evidances it is proved that dances whether performed by boys or girls are  part of our culture now. You can call it Un Islamic which I agree but we have to face the truth that these are the part of our culture. Apart from these there are many other things that we normally do though we know that these are un islamic (banking, shaving beard, unveiling (be pardagee) and all others mentioned above) but we still do it because these have become part of our life and these are not unlawful in our culture.

There is no chance to deny these facts of our culture. Though people can argue about change but for that they will have to start it from theirselves rather than asking from other to do it for them.

Yes i agree with you leading Guy because people always lead us in disguise like you they have hidden identifications rather forgotten their identity.your explanation starts from Harapa very bluntly but i don;t know why you have skipped from islamic culture ...Islam never confront with any culture unless the rituals or customs of  that culture go against Islamic Values. I think we are on the worst phase of the prvailing scenario where we need to justify our deeds by  giving examples from other cultures .My friend i would request you to study the culture of land where now pakistan is before 712 AD. then you would realise that how did islam turn the people from immodesty to modesty .i would refer you to the National Geographic doccumentary about culture in Rajhistan....there are still nude sculuptures in the religious buildings  but most of the hindu families still observe Parda because they had been influenced by Islamic culture. I would qoute one of Islamic religious scholar Dr Zakir Naik here .who said these are the footsteps of Shaitan .....that lead to big sins ..when we justify wrong things unnecessarily..I cannot blaim you or anyone else because it is a fact that we are not good muslims..But we are muslims Alhamdolillah ..May Allah guide us in the right direction.

Welcome to a new debate leading guy ,Just answer the following questions 1. Have you or me ever watch an indian movie in the presence of our parents .? 2. Have you or me allow our sisters or daughters to dance on stage in front of audience rather we always lack  lady announcers and comperes for our programmes. 3.Have we ever arranged mix functions on our wedding receptions ? without waiting for your reply i know we both say No to all above questions i know these three questions are not our whole culture but it is the perception of 90% of pakistanis.rest 10% are exceptions .  My brother doesn;t matter where we are ..we should stick to our values .....I think you have become quite moderate because in the last four years you are leading a Dera type life where no one speak about family .....Its not a compulsion my friend it is a matter of choice but its my faith that if we try to keep ourselves in limits Allah  Taalah  will protect us from evils ...It is we who donot want to understand.

Tarantella Before Christianity Toronto was a very popular dance of Roman cultural, when Christianity became official religion of Empire, high priest of Empire forbid this dance because it was against religion of that time Tarantula is a large and mildly venomous spider largely found in Rome. To avoid precaution, people gets bite of spider and start dance as a cure of that bite, they gave this misconception that venom of spider make them dance so they get away with punishments. This DHAMAL like dance called tarantula now, still part of European culture Question is this does religion override culture? Culture is an adapting thing, it adapt new new words in language , new dresses, where you have capacity to replace and renew. When we talk about Pakistani culture or Islamic culture, they are two different things, we are trying to run them both together we are doing good, but there is third force "law of the land" which deny most of above mentioned forces We Pakistani , if not non of us then I will say most of us are not sincere with any of above mentioned forces When we say three system in one country which has literacy of only 10% to 15% this means there is no system , only system we are seeing "stick with your chair and stay in power" no matters what it cost . It has been happened so many time that it has became part of our culture and I like it .
