A Volunteer?s Criteria & Checklist
  1. Her/his age must be 21 or 25+
  2. Must be in good health
  3. Ready to work in tough terrains, hard weather and tough living conditions
  4. Ready to face the traumatic conditions in the affected area
  5. Good listeners
  6. Aware of the social set-up of the area/s, it is required for volunteers to blend with the local people and be vary of their sensitivities. During Ramzan please do not eat, drink or smoke in front of the communities, it is recommended to dress appropriately (women need to wear shalwar kameez and at times a shawl/chaddar to cover themselves esp. in the Hazara division)
  7. Preferably based in Pakistan with Pakistani origin and having experience of working with communities here
  8. Ability to speak Urdu, Pushto, Hindko or Pahari

    What should a volunteer carry with her/him?

    Pair of Gloves

    A warm jacket

    A rain coat

    Sleeping bag

    Towel

    Water bottle

    Medicines (Panadol, Pain Killers, Anti Malarial, First Aid bandages)

    Torch

    Sturdy pair of walking shoes and warm socks

    Snacks if they want to carry any

    Personal hygiene kits
    ORS (to add in water and avoid dehydration if diarrhea) + water purifying
    Tablets to clean water
    Batteries for torch (or better charger n chargeable batteries)
    A foldable knife, and other related requirements.

    Team ethics

    Must work with the group and not on individual basis

    Must report to the team leader

    Try and remain calm, supportive and cooperative

    Must remain ready to do anything the team leader requires their support in

    Tents to live in

    Food and beverage

    Travel reimbursement if required

    Antibiotic tablets/vaccinations to counter infections

    Our expectation from you

    Provide the support to our team

    Trekking/walking to harder areas where need be

    Loading and unloading trucks

    Provide support in assessment of the area

    Handing out relief items to affectees

    Providing emotional support to the affectees

     

    For Doctors/Paramedics

    Provide medical treatment

    Support our team in whichever assignment is given apart from medical services

     

  • Duties include

    Provide food and water to the affectees

    Provide medical care and assistance to the affectees

    Provide comfort and emotional support with special emphasis on women and children

    Be good listeners and try not to probe too much neither dictate

    Rehabilitation of the affectees in the longer run
